So if I want to do most of my flowers from seed, which ones will grow the best?
Unless it's seeds or bulbs I don't mail order plants but the nurseries don't always have the best selection.
Any favorites? Tips?

I am not very successful with seeds. I only throw them out on the ground and hope for the best. I get many plants from perennials or annuals reseeding. I have had success with corn flowers from the package.
Well I'm out to get everyone I can to try winter sowing! LOL
But for the most bang for the buck I like non hybrid annuals. Things like zinnias and cosmos germinate easily from seed direct sown in almost any soil and reseed themselves.
Perennials some times need cold periods, may be slower to germinate and can take time to gain a large size. That's why I like the WS method. It's easy to keep track of the seeds and seedlings while all of the above is taking it's time.
You need to put your link to the WS thread you have going now. Also when do you start your winter planting in the jugs?
Yes, please join us Tir. Steph has a thread started over here. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/917946/ If you are new to seed starting this is a really fun and easy way to get started.
My first thought was what cocoa_lulu suggested -- you can't beat zinnias and cosmos for sure flowers. They get nice and airy and bless you with more seeds than you'll know what to do with. I have a ton of cosmos seeds (dmail me if you want some) -- bright oranges and yellows.
Thank-you! I'd hate to waste your offer though, I'm only in the dreaming stages for now. You should see the yard, more plants IN pots than in the ground. Hence wondering what I can do from seed to be easier lol.
