okie dokie then that is what I tell him ..it is a dark one LOL

thanks ladies for the help

They're fairly common here. Tell him he's going to find more sooner or later.lol They're really cool when you find them covered with babies. If you push aside the mother like with a piece of paper, the babies will scatter and then all climb back on to the mothers back. Not sure you what to hear that right before bed time.LOL

rofl well it is in a jar wtih holes in the lid but small holes so she can't get out and the egg sack has not opened

Sometime last year, one crawled into one of the bathroom sink cabinets. I didn't see it until I started to investigate the source of all the little spiders crawling up the wall. I found her dessicated body toward the back. After the massacre I had to wash the walls down.

Definitely a wolf spider. It went through this with about 5 of these ugly looking things in about 10 days a few months back. One was so big about half way up my wall one night, just as I was getting ready to go to bed. It was sprawled out about 4 inches across, it scared the daylights out of me, I don't think I've ever personally seen one that big. The others were about 3 inches wide.

I researched and research and everywhere I went and found what it looked like, they called it a wolf spider. You better get rid of it before the babies hatch....they'll come through those holes. While outside the other night, one was on the side of my house, I recognised it to be a Wolf Spider with a lump on it's back, it was kinda dark and didn't realize the babies were already out of the sac....man, when I hit it, it seemed like thousands of them scattered everywhere in an INSTANT.

They are SO TINY when they are first born, I promise you that they will NOT stay in the jar.

The link above says they are not harmful to people but the articles I read said that they don't search out humans to bite but should one bite you that they are poisonous.

Your photo is kinda blurry, does it look anything like the one below.

This one is not a photo of mine because didn't think to take one of mine.....I found this one online. Mine was darker too....as a matter of fact, when I saw the one on the wall, I thought it was black until I killed it and looked at it under a magnifying glass and saw that it was black and brown with lighter tan stripes on it. Here are a couple of sites that show wolf spiders.

OMG! Shake, shiver, yuk and just before bed......YUK! I will be on the look out for those. I haven't seen one here, but we had one similar in Channelview years ago. I sure did not know that they are poisonous! I kill any I see, so it wouldn't last long around here! Thanks for the information!!!!!!

I'm really surprised more of these are not seen. I found one in my shoe yesterday and thought about this thread. They're everywhere here. The only spiders I really worry about are blk widows and brown recluses. All the others I just toss outside. I'm weird tho. I think bugs and spiders are fascinating. I like to look closely at them and watch their behavior. They don't bother me, I think it's because I tend to think I'm bigger, smarter and superior to them ;0) The only time it bothers me is when there's a whole lot of them together and I start to feel out numbered. Like in Bettydee's situation. I laughed out load at her 'massacre', I would have done the same.lol

If I can catch wolf spiders in a container, they go outside alive, but sometimes I freak out and lash out. A few months ago I put my Wellies on to help my DH move some cattle. I felt a sharp bite almost immediately. I pulled my foot out of the boot, turned it upside down and out dropped a big wolf spider. Before I realized it, I'd used my booted foot to smash the spider flat. Black widows are toast no matter where I encounter them as are the teal-fanged black and white jumping spiders. I've been bitten by those jumping spiders a number of times. The first time I was bitten, the nasty thing had crawled up under my dress. Suddenly I felt an intense, hot, burning pain on my upper thigh. I gave the area a few quick swats. By the time I looked at my leg, I had a 2" raised welt that hurt like h***. The next day, the two fang puncture sites had become one. Over the next few days the skin and surrounding tissue continued to necrotize. It took several months for the wound to heal and for the twinges of pain subside. Now, I head for the doctor's office for an anti-histamine injection and some ointment to sooth the pain. It's expensive to have an encounter with those things!

I would not kill this spider. It is fantastic for keeping the bad little insects out of your garden and plants. They are terrritorial and will chase you if they feel threatened. When I was young we used to have one that lived on my front porch. She was large, they will bite and they do hurt and maybe make you a little sick, but I have never heard of any fatalities from the bites. They are kin to turantulas. They can jump a good distance for their size.

A wolf spider huh? Wow..I think I saw one here in North Texas once..I am more concerned with the Brown Recluse spiders & Black Widows as they are more deadly. Brown recluses are mostly indoors in places where there is little movment & darkness!
I don't like spiders at the best of times but if they get INSIDE they are goners!! hahaha

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

I agree with you Cindy outside is fine but once in my house fair game LOL

Argyle, TX(Zone 7b)

I believe that the two mentioned by cindylove, the brown recluse and the black widow are the only two poisonous spiders in Texas.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

I agree with that. However, I have been bitten by noid and the recovery is terrible.
