Veggies for tropicals?

San Gerardo de Rivas, Costa Rica(Zone 12b)

Hi everyone. This is my first visit to this forum, but I figured it was my best bet. I am looking for a small assortment of veggie seeds, like corn, beets, carrots, spinach, and lettuce. I only have tropical seeds to trade, suitable for growing in a greenhouse in the U.S. or started early to grow outside next Summer. A few things could even be grown as houseplants, if kept pruned.

If anyone is interested, please D-mail me and maybe we can arrange a trade.

Thanks!

Welcome to DG vanillaman! I don't have anything to trade as I don't believe in mixing seeds but we have a lot of seeds available one way or another. Try our Marketplace and Seed Trading thread.

Thanks so much Tplant! I didn't want to post at the Seed Trading thread because I didn't want to get swamped with trade requests, lol! I tend to trade a little from time to time privately, but that particularly forum can be a little overwhelming. I thought maybe a veggie grower might have been able to help me out and want something tropical in exchange. What I've ended up doing, is placing a small order with Park Seeds in South Carolina and then having it mailed to a DG friend in Alabama. She will forward it to me in a bubble envelope. We have already traded seeds before and there was no problem. Park's has a very interesting lettuce mix as well as a heirloom tomato seed mix, which I'm going to get. This seemed to work out well, so soon I should have my new veggies growing here. Right now is the time to plant because we are just changing from the long wet season to the short dry season. After I get my goodies growing, I will let some things like lettuce and spinach go to seed, so that way I'll have my own seeds after that.

Thank-you again for your suggestions, but I'm "on my way" now to growing a good crop of veggies. I'm even trying pumpkins because you certainly can't get them here and I love pumpkin pie, lol! One or 2 plants will be plenty, like the acorn squash. I don't need bushels of anything!

As long as you have a friend in Carolina try shopping with Tomato Growers Supply. They have a real big variety far superior to Parks Seed.

Thanks again Tplant, for your suggestion. I realize now that I'm going to order my seeds via a friend in the U.S., I can order from any of the American companies. I did look at the Tomato Growers Supply site, but I think I'll stick to my Park's order. I only want to grow a few plants, but different varieties. I just need enough for me and my dog (he loves them, lol) and to give away to friends. I find you always get way too many seeds in a pkg., especially for my needs. The mixture at Park's is called "Heirloom Rainbow Blend" and has 6 different varieties, all which sound/look good to me, and $1.95 is quite reasonable. The lettuce mix I'm ordering is called "Summer Glory Blend" and has 7 varieties, which also all appeal to me, also $1.95. I will also get a couple different types of sweet corn and a few pkgs. of flowers like Sweet Peas "Streamer Mix". I'm sure I'll be happy with all that stuff and I do already have a bunch of other seeds like spinach, beets. beans, etc. so I didn't need them. I will be busy the next few weeks/months - for sure! Where I live, we are just entering our planting time, with Summer right around the corner, lol!

Many thanks!

If you haven't ordered everything you want/need, send me a DMail. I have almost every kind of vegetable seed and will be glad to send you some. You have some things I'd like to try just for fun.
