Cyclamen rhodium subsp. peloponnesiacum..

Gent, Belgium(Zone 8a)

How deep should I plant it?

Yesterday I received its bulb I had ordered and I know that certain species like to be planted very shallow (like C.coum) others like it a bit deeper. I wouldn't like to loose it so perhaps someone has experience with it?
I would be grateful for any advise!

I don't have it, but look at this site and the pic on the small thumbnail, I would guess by that it should be very near the surface and covered with small stones.

Very nice too!

Thanks wallaby, I'm just a little worried about planting it so shallow as it's not sufficient hardy according to the bulb company catalogue, it might be though in my protected garden..

I think if covered with some leaf mould with small stones on top it would provide sufficient drainage, and might be OK if kept in a sheltered place so it doesn't get too wet. I would think, according to it's location, it should be kept on the dry side. Also by using a very free draining mix to grow it in should help.

Tile Barn Nursery does say it is hardy in mild areas for here, they are specialist growers. Catalogues have to cover all hardiness areas which they might sell to, but I would still be very cautious.

Yes, I think the wisest would be not to just plant it in the garden but in a container with gritty free draining soil and keep it protected from the excess of rain. One more pot then for my already overcrowded tiny garden shed, lol!

Have a look in the cyclamen forum at www.gardenbuddies.com - some very expert people post there.
