I purchased this Anthurium from Troy in Hawaii. The cross is A. bessae x A. magnificum. It has a very neat leaf form. But no one seems to be able to find its origin. Is it a new Thai plant? Anyone seen it anywhere except for sale on eBay (by Troy?)
I wanted to post it to Plant Files, but it couldn't be verified as an 'accepted' hybrid. Any info appreciated!
Need help with history of an Anthurium
Sounds to me as if you've already got your answer. Since it's identified as just a cross and not a "named" cross, it's origin could be from anyone who has both parents and knows how to hybridize anthuriums. Even if you find a "named" cross with the same parents, it doesn't mean your plant is that named cross. If 5 seeds of the same cross are grown out, and one of them gets named "Happy Pants", that doesn't mean the other four seedlings are then "Happy Pants" as well. Only clones (cuttings, tissue culture, divisions, etc) of that one specific plant are correctly identified as "Happy Pants". The other four would only then be regarded by they cross name (such as yours).
Forgot to add... it's a beautiful anthurium, "named" cross or not!
Thanks Carter, I kinda knew that, LOL. I had wanted to add it to the Plant Files but it was disqualified because its not a "verified" hybrid. I guess maybe I can name mine, propogate it and then it will be "my clone" lol.
I love this plant. I love the leaf shape and the really prominent veining. It kinda glows in person. Hard to actually get with the camera
I am hooked on the Anthurium foilage plant's. I purchased this one a couple of month's ago and it stated that it was a "eristinum". I can't find any new information on this particular one except what the seller stated that I purchased from. From what I have read about some of these "foilage" type of Anthurium's, they need "high" humidity and low light but how about water need's? As you can see, mine has a bit of brown/yellow mark's starting to appear in which the combination does confuse me.
gothqueen, your's is stunning.
Thank's
Rachel
Rachel,
I believe yours is Anthurium clarinervium. I have this plant also. It has not been the happiest of campers for me, even though I meet all its requirements quite well. It never keeps more than about 2 leaves, but it blooms all the time. Weird! Yours looks good! Be prepared, the leaves get much, much larger than your starter plant! I have had leaves on mine about 15 inches across.
Thank's much. From what I have found (via-the net) I think it's a "clarinenvum" as well. The seller noted that this type is suppose to get leave's larger than Clarin. though. Time will tell but with my environment here in VA. I will take what ever I can get without it pooping out on me.
Rachel
