Where do y'all get organic or all natural chicken feed?

Hartville, OH

Thanks to all who replied to my last question about chicks in the fall. After much discussion with my wise husband, he convinced me not to get chicks until next spring in exchange for ordering my Christmas present early - a Country Living grain mill. I think he considers it a worthwhile investment just to stave off the chicken craze, never mind fresh baked goods.

Our family is plagued with health problems and we are finding much success with a more organic dietary lifestyle. I would like to continue this trend with feeding my future chickens organic or all natural (no pesticides, fertilizers, or chemicals) chicken feed. I have had no success tracking down a local source and have not found a good online source either. I don't know what a good price is and what I could grow myself to supplement the feed. Sooo.....

What do you feed your chickens?

Where do you get it?

What do you supplement your feed with?

How much do you pay?

Any other tips?

The brand I feed my girls is "payback" and it is an organic feed. I give them kitchen scraps and whole or cracked grains as treats, but with the feed, there is not a necessity for supplement. There is a thread in this forum called nutrition 101. One of our members goes to great lengths to explain how she feeds her chickens and it sounds like it is completely natural as well.

Best of luck and check out that other thread -- I think you'll get lots of information from it!
