jojoringer Updared pics of the duck, and a funny duck story.

Most all of you know the story of this duck. jojoringer rescued him as a baby but couldn't keep him so that is how we got him. He is growing and he is a he because the curl on the tail has appeared about a month ago. He still loves to hang out with his chicken friends and also the dog. Yes the dog. The dog barks and runs, the duck follows running and probably quacking (hard to tell with the dog barking so loud).
Yesterday Libby (the dog) was digging a hole. Who was right there behind her getting dirt thrown all over and twiddling in the freshly dug dirt....yep, Quackers (the duck).
He is a joy to watch.
Okay for the funny story..... (at least I think it's funny)
One day we let all the chicken out in the yard to roam. We have more than 50 so there were a lot of them running all over. Quackers was out too and since we had not had Quackers out with the older roo before we were not sure how one would react to the other. So as my husband and I are standig there talking about how the roo might treat the duck, the duck marches up and gooses the roo in the rear. The roo flies up in the air, we are rolling laughing and Quackers just walks off as if to say....nothing to worry about I took care of it.
We still laugh at the sight of that big roo flying up in the air after getting a duck bill in the rear.

What makes it even funnier to us is that the duck was not in the area with the roo, he was off in another part of the yard. The roo was minding his own business pecking and clucking at his hens who were all in the same area. The duck just marched up, goosed the roo and walked off. He could have picked any one of them to do it to but he picked the roo and we were standing right there discussing how they might get along. It's as though he knew we were talking about it and said "here's your answer....I took care of it....no problem". The roo didn't even know what got him in the rear.

smedgekles, I love that story!! I was concerned about my duck being lonely just hanging out with the chickens but I think my duck believes she's the boss of them all! She rounds them all up and herds them around the yard. When one doesn't move fast enough, she too gives them a goose in the rear!lol!
Last night I went out to shut them all in and there was the duck in the middle of the field walking in circles just talking away. I peeked in the hen house and all the chickens had gone to bed. It took about five minutes for me to finally round up duck and get her in the pen. She strolled up the ramp and went into the hen house where she promptly began quacking at all the chickens! I think she was giving them the dickens for sneaking off w/out her!!

Too funny Sandy. Ducks are so much fun. Great picture, are those Buffs?

Sue, RI(Zone 6a)

Yes they are. They are so fun to watch. They are in the pasture right behind the house so when you step out the back door they come running! The duck isn't as fast so she books it as quick as her feet will go and she flaps her wings to try to move faster!! So of course I feel guilty if I don't have something to toss to them! I try to have a little something for them when I go out the door. They've trained me well. :-)
