Raw Prey Model diet

Deer River, MN(Zone 3b)

Hi Everybody,

Yesterday I spent some time discussing the Raw Prey Model diet with my vet (who also happens to be a hunter). Something hasn't been making a lot of sense to me since switching my dogs and cats to RPM, and my vet confirmed my observations. I don't know who came up with these 80% muscle meat:10% bone:10% organ proportions for the RPM diet, but they're certainly not consistent with the proportions of these elements in the bodies of most prey animals. Larger prey animals like deer, elk, cattle, etc. are about 40% bone and 60% meat/organs. Small prey like rodents are probably closer to 60% bone and 40% meat/organs.

So where did these RPM proportions come from, and why do they recommend so much smaller a proportion of bone than actually exists in the bodies of live prey animals?

Laurie
