I took this photo of Private Dancer today.

She is awesome, Sally! You can really grow those big ones for sure! It is a shame we aren't having a show............we need your beauties!

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Sally, she is fantastic!! She reminds me very much of one of my favorites I used to grow.I need to dig out my logs again, now that you have all seduced me into the bingo game ^_^ !!
Of course,it's no fault of my own,if I become hopelessly addicted again..LOL

Oh, now I want one! Thank you, Sally, for sharing! Is that you in the pic?

South, TX

Yes, that is me. I should not have really taken the picture. I have been very ill with migraines again and had a wet cloth on my forhead all night, smashed hair. I did my best, ha.

I keep wanting a new picture of this plant so I had hubby take a picture today.

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Well, I think it's great to put a face with a name! I agree with Gail . . . I would have enjoyed seeing your Private Dancer at a show . . .

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

Beautiful, Sally, and so are you. A great example of Sally's blooms!

Williston, ND

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

Very nice picture Sally. You sure can grow those big AV's....Nice!

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Sally - did you grow that from a leaf? How long did it take to get to that size?

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Sally, all I can say is WOW!!!
What a beautiful plant. The one holding it is pretty too!!
That's another one to add to my list of 'wants' LOL

South, TX

Syru, I think I got it at Ken's in Boerne. I have only been twice and it has been a while. It was a small plant, not a leaf. I think I got it about 8 months ago, not sure.

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

That's ok . . . it gives me a good idea on growth time!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I have always heard that you can grow an african violet from sticking the leaf to its first flush of blooms in 9 months. Is that correct? Those that Sally is picking up from Ken are probably about 2 or 3 months old I would guess based on what I see when I am there. Which means, Syrmani, you can have a plant as big as Sally's in a total of 12 months....................pretty nice thought, eh?

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Just another lesson in patience!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Patience is not one of my virtues for sure! Growing from seed is fun though..............for me.....................so I guess it is the same concept. Goldleaf grows all her avs from leaf. She won't order one.

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

omigosh!!
That is one *gorgeous* well-grown plant!

Lovely lady holding it, too!

(Zone 1)

Wowsers! That is an Amazing AV Sally, really beautiful! You can really grow them!

I think that is a great photo of you Sally! I would have never guessed you were not feeling up to par, you look as pretty as your violet! That turquoise color is a great color for your skintone and it worked great as a backdrop for that pretty AV!

Great growing!

South, TX

Thanks Lin, yes, I was sick, but at the end of my headache. Getting better so I could try for a picture. The day before I would have broken the lens no DOUBT! ha.

(Zone 1)

Oh, now I know with your looks, you would never break the camera lens! Glad you are feeling better!

edited to add: You Texas gal's seem to have the best complexions! At least every female I've ever met from Texas seems to have that peaches and cream type skin. Shows y'all take good care of yourselves!

Beautiful violet, you really know how to grow 'em........guess I'll have to add Private Dancer to my wish list. I love the large variegated violets.

Come on Sally and tell your secrets............I can't even make one attractive! I know you have the fancy pancy light system. Do you think the light system makes that much difference? Tell us what you feed them , etc..................
