cinnamomifolia leaves turning red?

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

I have both cinnamomifolia and pottsii. Both are in the sun part of the day. The leaves look identical to each other except the pottsii leaves are larger and both have the red color. Neither one has bloomed yet.
The cinnamomifolia was received in a trade March 07, along with diversifolia, fungii and crassipes all from the same person, in a trade. I've come to think that fungii and crassipes are mislabeled carnosas and possibly diversifolia is also.
Do cinnamomifolia leaves turn red in the sun like pottsii, or is this mislabeled also? The only plant that has bloomed so far is the mis-labeled fungii. Here is a picture of it. It is blooming again and the peduncle is 3 inches across and the flowers last for over a week. I'll take pictures tomorrow of the cinnamomifolia and potsii side by side.

Why do you think that the H. fungii is mislabeled?

ALL hoyas have the potential of turning their leaves reddish/red/orange in high light and/or full sun. Some will turn more than others, some will look nicer than others. It is a chemical in the leaves .... I would guess a protection mechanism. Very few do not: H. carnosa and it's cousins don't turn for me....

Fungii is sometimes called "H. carnosa 'Vietnam'"...they are probably related...most from S. China or there abouts.

Carol, I had posted a picture of my plant on this site, or GW, and was told it was not fungii because the corollas are curved back too much. I have this hoya labeled as 'motoski not fungii(?)' until I find the corect name.
This business of names is sooo confusing.

Hmmmm. You could be very right!!! There are some closeups of motoskei on another thread...you might compare.

Here's a photo I took a few years ago. However, the motoskei flower is not fully opened in that photo.

Here's a better one of my motoskei.

Thought I had another comparison and I found it!

Well, from those pictures posted, I am pretty sure it's motoskei. Now the original question was about my cinnamomifolia and pottsii.
But I'm glad the mystery of the fungii? is sort of solved.
Here is a picture of cinnamomifolia and pottsii, side by side.
Could they be the same?

They both look like pottsii to me - I also have a 'cinnamomifolia' that's really a pottsii; just waiting for it to bloom to find out which clone of pottsii that it really is. I have the 'real' cinnamomifolia now and its leaves are more than double the size of the 'fake' one.

If they aren't the 'same', they are both NOT H. cinimomifolia (I didn't spell that right!!!).... Beautiful leaves... You can get it to bloom by growing it very dry to about 6 months in the winter and wetter in the summer....

Take care

The pogttsii was purchased from B Smolley, so I'm 'sorta sure' that it is correctly named. ^_^
The cinnimomifolia was a trade that I received from the same person who sent me the fungii?, crassipes, and diversifolia. I think crassipes, fungii and diversifolia are incorectly named and could all be same hoya, and also that the cinnimomifolia is also incorect.
One of these days I hope to have them correctly named. It's a never-ending job.

What does the diversifolia look like?
