poor Epicia

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

I am a bad mommie!! I forgot all about the 4 epicia plants I had hanging out among the hoya. I didn't bring them inside night before last, when the temp went down to the 40s. I was reading up on the stickies last night and saw that 50 degrees is the coldest that could take. Right now they are in a north window inside the house. I hope they recover. The stem still looks good, so maybe they'll pug out new growth. I was more concerned with the baby strep and chirita that I have out there. Those I brought inside.
I guess time will tell with the epicia.

Don't give up on it-- in my other house-- my Chocolate Soldier episcia went completly dormant and came back in the spring when temps warmed up-- it did this a couple years in a row-- until I realized the room was just too cold(duh) and put it in a better location. It would slowly decline and then be gone-- I would water the pot occasionally-- when I thought of it--but it came back in spite of my mistreatment.

Eileen, I did the same thing. I got 6 Episcia's from Susan last week and gave them all a bath in insecticidal soap (just in case) because she warned me that she had had a problem with thrips. I forgot and left them out on the back deck and it got down to 41 here one night, next night was 43. I can't even show a picture as you can't even tell what they were! Geesh, I can't believe I forgot to bring them inside. I never leave gessies out in the cold!

Great news HGran! I won't throw mine out ... but will take a "wait and see" stance! Thanks for sharing that bit of information. I know plants are sometimes a lot tougher than we give them credit for.

I would start taking the 'good parts' off right now and planting them up and doming them. I wouldn't even wait until tomorrow. I can see some good healthy parts................and then throw the rest away. A lot of people order episcias, take cuttings and throw the rest away....................good luck

Some of the leaves, especially on the top, look pretty good.I would definitely get rid of badly damaged leaves.

Ok, just d-mail me if you have any questions. We usually have Bingo games during the winter months when folks get bored because the weather outside is cold and dreary! Of course I live in Florida where winters aren't so bad. It's 73 degrees outside here right now ... beautiful and sunny! So ... why the heck am I sitting inside at the computer?! I think I will head out to play in the dirt for awhile!
