And just one more question for tonight....

Linden, TN

I have a friend here that grew Brugs in California... and she said it is a must to dip all new cuttings I receive from donors in a solution of bleach and water... to kill off any varmints that may have layed microscopic eggs on the stems or leaves.. and to ward off any kind of virus or bacteria....

Do y'all do that? I used to dip iris rhizomes and daylily roots in a bleach and water solution before sharing them,,,, but really did not think about doing it for cuttings.

Thanks..

I don't do that. I don't know what the Chlorox would do to the inside of the cutting, but unless someone else does it, I wouldn't take a chance. I've never used Chlorox on any of my plants, no matter what kind, only brug seeds.

I don't use Clorox either, but I've read that immersing cuttings/plants in warm water held at 115 - 120ºF for 15 minutes will kill spidermites and broadmites without harming plant tissue. I got that information from an edu article on broadmites.

Great information ladies.. Thank you so much..

You can use hyrogen peroxide instead of bleach.
Mixed half and half using 3 percent strength.
Hydrogen peroxide killls bugs and is a disinfectant.
We stopped using bleach, even filter it out of my water for the garden,
spigot filter...
