I hope I'm not losing this little strep 'Happy Time'. I received it from Nancy in the swap. The leaves are turning brown. Could this be because of watering it from the top? I transplanted it into a yougurt cup and raised it up a little. I'm not sure how often to water. Do streps like it moist at all times? Should I be watering from the bottom? I let my violets get a little dry before watering, and they seem to be doing OK. PLEASE give me some direction. I don't want to loose her.
I need help with baby Strep
The damage looks like an insect or fertilizer issue, rather than watering.Check the leaves and soil very carefully.

I haven't fertilized it. I just re-potted into fresh mix and cut away bad soft parts of the leaves. I don't see any insects. It's among baby kohleria and chirita plants and they are OK. That's what made me think of how I was watering it.
Maybe the areas where you cut it is what looks like insect damage.Let the plant dry well between waterings.

I wish I could help Eileen but I've killed every Strep that's ever come through my door! It does look a bit too wet to my eyes, but hey, don't pay any mind to my eyesight ... it's not the best!
Hopefully someone who grows these well will be along soon with some advice. I know Nancy has a broken foot so isn't around the garden lately but Gail grows Streps as do a few others. Hang in there and hopefully someone will advise you shortly.
I think there are two problems..............first, your plant is too wet.........secondly, after it dries up a bit, dome it ...............she is so small she needs high humidity for awhile I think.
Shes too wet.,try a lighter mix, your mix should dry out in a few days if it doesnt, its probally
has too much peat/dirt try mixing in some perlite and some charcoal

The plant is starting to dry out a little. I keep watching it. It looks like the new leaves got a little bigger. I had to bring it in the house because of the 40 degree temp during the last two nights. Most of my plants are outside all year, except when the temp drops below 40. Thanks for all the help.
Keep her inside.........extreme temps are going to kill anything.......back and forth..........in temps.
As someone rather 'new' to growing streps and learning from my mistakes, I would recommend watering it from the bottom....but only allow it to sit until it soaks up what it needs...then remove the saucer.
I think I've killed streps more from top watering than any other reason.
I do have a couple of nice bigger plants that I do water from the top, but I keep the water away from the crown by giving it little 'sips' off to the side of the crown of leaves.
Well, I'm down to one leaf on this poor little thing and the other leaf is not perky. The other one just wilted away. The center of the strep looks brown, and no green is showing. Should I cut the remaining leaf off and try to see if it will send off some babies?
Maybe your plant is a goner..
General info...streps don't like heat. Outdoors in Florida doesn't suit them. I try to keep mine not over 75F.
Warm plus wet...is no good for streps. Streptocarpus prefer to be grown in cool conditions. Growing temperatures should remain between 55F and 75F if possible.
If the one remaining leaf is still green and fairly crisp, you could try and root it.The rest of the plant sounds like it is gone.

eileen;
is there any others you are looking for,if not a plant i might have a leaf?let me know. i just took apart happy time, have a small plant for you
mrsbonnie
Mrsbonnie, I've never grown anything other than african violets before. I'm sorta new to this forum and I participated in the swap recently. Cedarnest sent me some chirita, the strep seeds that I have germinated, kohleria rhizomes and my little 'Happy Time' strep that is a gonner. So I'm open to try any of these georgeous plants.
My main obsession is hoya, but the gessies are getting close to being an obsession too.
