Have to trade: Philodendron radiatum

Gainesville, FL

I can take a nice cutting of this lovely climber. Looking for:

Philodendron andreanum
Philodendron gigas
Philodendron Golden Xanadu
Philodendron holtonianum
Philodendron subhastatum
Philodendron McDowelii
Philodendron acutifolium
Philodendron tenuoidum
or make offer

Unfortunately, I am unable to trade with traders fron California, Texas, Louisiana, Arizona or Hawaii due to the very strict Agricultural laws that govern entry of plants into your states from Florida (and other Southern Tier states infested with IFAS and Burrowing/Reniform nematode)

Hi,
I have a question. Looking at your photo, there is a palm(?) on the left. Do you know the name of it? I have one just like it and I have tried to find the name, but no success. Thanks for your help.

Hi GA Girl,
Where did you get your palm?
It is a Licuala peltata var. peltata. This specimen is about 10 years old. Very slow gorwing, a very tropical palm. Mine came from Hawaii. I'll see if I can hunt up a full photo of it. You may be mistaking another palm species that you have for this one.

Honestly, I can't remember, I think Florida. Mine looks just like yours, maybe a little bigger leaves. I keep mine in a pot. I will go take a picture and send it to you. Back in a sec.

Here is a photo of mine in full. Its a very slow grower. There are a lot of Licualas, I'll post some of mine on the palm forum now that I know how to do Photobucket on here and not just harddrive.

Of course I can't find my camera. Looks just like it, except the leaves on mine aren't as round. What is the plant on the left, a type of ginger or lily?

Gainesville, FL

No, that is a Cycad, Zamia variegata. Its also very slow growing and is just now starting to show some spots.

Here is another photo of the P. radiatum showing a little more substance

gothqueen...checked out your thread hoping to have something you'd like...but don't...hope you don't mind my 'piping in' to help GAgirl ID her palm?

Hey GAgirl...If you purchased your palm unidentified at a 'box store', I'd bet you have this one, as it seems to be somewhat 'commonly sold' recently:

Or this one.

A possibility, anyway!

Edited because I got my palms mixed up!

Hi Nan,
just have to say, the possibility of finding a Chamie teurckheimii in a box store is about as non-existant as finding a needle in a haystack. Those palms, and their cousins Chamie sullivanorium, both of which are nicknamed Potato Chip palms, are so very rare and utterly expensive (a small, 3 inch palm can sell for $100 or more, IF you can even locate a source) that the probability of getting one is very small.

I could be wrong, but, I believe that GA Girl's palm is probably a juvenile Chinese Fan palm, Livistonia chinensis. You should post your photo in the Pal Forum and see if anyone can tell you better. I am certain someone like Palm Bob could ID it in a snap.

I know!! That's why I edited....I searched for 'Potato chip palm', as I thought that's what hers looked like, and then I 'jumped the gun' by posting the link to that one!
Sorry 'bout that! (Ü)

I think that the "Google" confusion comes from the fact that recently someone on eBay (and forums as well) have been referring to Licuala grandis as 'the Potato Chip Palm" when in fact, that is NOT toe correct nickname for it. L. grandis is the Vanuatu Fan Palm, and the Chamies are the 'real' potato chip palms.

Licuala grandis is probably the most readily available of the Licualas. Its a great palm. Much faster than L. peltata.
