Homemade Yogurt- Can you make it

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

with nonfat dry milk powder reconstitued? I just got an electric yogurt machine thru the thrift store. I could buy a quart of milk at the store, but I want to use my nfdrm powder if possible. The recipe book has recipes and they call for nfdrm powder to use as a thickener in the yogurt. I would really like to find fresh milk but doubt I can get just a quart at a time anywhere. I would probably have to buy more than a quart anyway as I would want to skim the cream off. Then I could make butter and have buttermilk for baking. LOL.
