I can't go to the shelter i get TOO! upset because i love animals so much.
I had to take a stray to our shelter once it was a in heat female just dumped here so sad.

When i got there i walked into the kennel area and helped with the very large dog and decided to look around something i should of never done.
Well in the last cage there was a Basset and i'm a sucker for them he was and older dog he had on a collar full of tags so i assumed his owner must have really cared alot about him.
All his shots and vaccinations and even fixed i fell in love with him he was all waggie tail and those sad eyes he was perfect and knew i had to have him so i talked to the lady and she said he was due to be euthanized the next day.
I didn't have the money to get him and i ask if they would hold him and she said no because people had done that and never returned so i left.
I Told my DH about this wonderful dog and how sweet and he was just a cuddler and he said i can go to the bank tomarrow and when i get home we will go get him.
My kids were small at the time and they were all excited about the new dog and so was I.
I called the next morning and told them i wanted the dog and my husband would pick him up that afternoon and she said NO!
I said why we really want him and i can't pick him up right now She said well he's due to go done in 1 hour and we don't hold animals.
I could just see his big brown eyes and his tail wagging as i rubbed his head and i begged her i said "please"!! "Don't kill Him"!! i sware we will come and get him i will call my husband and we will pick him up soon as we can and she said we don't hold them.
I called my husband and there was a delay and it took a while for him to get to a phone and he said okay let me find my boss and see if i can get off i sat and watched the clock ticking away and prayed.
He came back and said okay i can get off call now and see if they will hold him do whatever you can..........
I called back and ask them to hold him with my pleading begging words..........The lady on the other end said i'm sorry the vet came in early and he was put down 10 minutes ago and i screamed in the phone i begged you not to kill him! why did you kill him! he was so sweet by this time i was weeping uncontrolably!
I said what am i going to tell my kids and you call yourself a rescue your nothing but a dirty dog pound.
I hadn't realised because i was so upset and crying all i could see was that sweet old dog and knew he was dead and that she was apoligizing and i didn't care and she was trying to tell me he was old and i didn't care and all i said was i don't see how you can live with yourself and hung up.

I have never set foot in a shelter again............

Harmony - your story is tragic - it is so difficult to hear about these things.

I volunteered with the local shelter for several years until my life became rather more complicated, and so I still send them money but I don't have the time right now to volunteer there. I mostly volunteered with the rabbits to help socialize them. They are so sweet and yet so few rabbits are adopted. I found it very difficult to go in one day and work with several rabbits and then the next day some would be gone, and they were not adopted. Broke my heart but they deserved the loving that I could give them in their last days. It is very hard to face the facts and this is why I get so angry with people who do not spay and neuter their pets. There are so many unwanted animals with very good dispositions, and that is why I keep an eye on the barnyard buddies at the shelter.

The sugar glider is cool and I would love it but I don't have time for proper care of it.

On any given day they have about 20 to 30 rabbits at the shelter. I wish I could take them all!

I might go see about that roo.

I have 3 dogs and 3 cats for the same reason....

(Zone 7b)

I have 4 Dogs all were free puppys and i have rescued countless kittens & puppys from local dumpsters and found them good homes.
Just like Claire i will buy a chicken thats been abused so i can bring it home and show it that life is good and then i find them new homes.

This tragic death of this dog was unnessary and it has lived in my heart for 10 years and it can still bring me to tears.

Things happen for a reason Harmony. You have to dig deep sometimes to find the blessing in things that make you sad. If it was right, it would have happened.. It is sad though.

I was guessing Ameracauna too... Just guessing.. not an expert...

The CF will bless you if you rescue it ya know.

OH what I'd give to be far away from neighbors with a few acres of land..

(Zone 7b)

I will wish that for you ZZ and will pray it comes true.

awww.. you gave me a tear.

Bless your heart!!

I wish everybody could have a piece of land to call their own and raise good food and animals it's a rewarding feeling.

I agree Americauna cross.

I was thinking the same thing but it is hard to really tell. I am sure if you get him you will post a better pic of him. From just the head shot he looks like my mr bo jangles. He has been penned up since I got him last month but he is so very docile. When my BR are old enough, I am going to put them in there with him along with the leghorns. Big blue eggs!!!! YEahhhhhhhhhh

How gentle he is, I have by accident the cochins in with him and he does not even bother them. He has his 3 girls, buff Orp, Andalusian cross and he loves his girls. STILL no eggs from them yet.
