Silkie - male or female or no way to tell?

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Anybody know if my white silkie (about 8 weeks old, or maybe 6, I can't exactly recall) is a male or a female? Or is there no way to tell?

I'm presently calling it "Mallow" for marshmallow.

At 6 or 8 weeks old, my little roo had big waddles and a larger comb than that. So I'd lean toward pullet... but could be completely wrong! Wonder what silkiechick has to say?

silkiechick could give a good guess. I think it was based partly on the way the top knot behaved. Swept back with little streamers--roo. Poofy and bouffant, a pullet.

I think. silkiechick?

But your pullet doesn't have that fleshy looking knobbly comb thing on her....

Not as much, but I saw a few females that did.

Silkiechick! Where are you?!?!

rotfl, even i can still be wrong sometimes. it looks like a roo to me.

lady, r ur silkies pures w/crossed color or silkie mixes? urs look boy left and girl right and look older to me than the white above.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Oh poo....I was hoping you wouldn't say that. I wanted it to be a girl!

Reynoldsville, PA(Zone 6a)

sorry, the comb looks to bumped up already to be a girl to me. i have had girls with them too but it is usually flat or dipped in. it just looks boyish to me and the head feathers look like streamers starting..

Good point Silkie, I meant to mention that as well... they were mixes (bantam cochin mama and silkie daddy) and you are right. Boy on left girl on right. Unfortunately, they are no longer mine because of the boy. We are in city limits and he had to go when he started trying out his voice - ha! They were so bonded I could bare to part them.

i asked cause they looked like F-1 mabe F-2 sizzles but i couldn't place it with the colors, lol. is that what is called a cochin silkie? yep i know that one. i have to raise mine outside of town due to that.

They were called craigslist backyard brew special. From the look of the lady's pen she didn't know what she was doing, but darnit they were ADORABLE! I just loved my little "Tillie" -- the girl.
