Wow Lin,That was hard picking only 35 out.LOL.

(Zone 1)

I bet it was ... there are so many beauties to choose from!

Wow ... I got Hillbilly_Gran's card already! She was quick!

(Zone 1)

Woo Hoo ... I can tell folks are excited about playing Bingo ... I've received d-mail with 9 cards so far!

(Zone 1)

Game begins next Monday, November 3rd. I can't believe it's almost November already!

You have until MIDNIGHT SUNDAY to d-mail me with your 15 choices from Jan's list! That is the deadline for signing up and getting your card in to be able to play in the November game.

I hope everyone is having good weather. We are windy and unusually chilly ... went down to 45 last night and today's high is only going to be in the low 60's! It's predicted to be 40-41 here tonight with high 60's tomorrow. Our normal daytime temp's for this time of year is low to mid 80's. This is refreshing for a change, but I don't much like for temps to get below @45! Thank goodness when we have cold temp's, they only last for a few hours. Guess I better bring in the orchids tonight!

(Zone 1)

I've received cards from 13 people so far!

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

Looks like where going to have a great game!

Lin,Somebody turned off the heat up here in south Alabama.LOL The high today was 55 with strong winds and tonight's low is going to be 32.The news guy just said this was mid January weather. But will warm up after the weekend.I spent most of the day covering and dragging in plants.

(Zone 1)

Hey Jan ... They turned off our Florida weather too! We had a low of 45 last night, highs today in the mid 60's. Tonight is predicted to be 39 and tomorrow, low 60's! Geesh! What is going on? Our temp's are 20 degrees below normal! I don't mind the cool for a couple of days ... rather enjoy it but I do not like it going below 45! I hauled in my orchids this afternoon and a few hoyas but everything else will have to suck it up! I watered well today and thankfully it will only be cold for a couple of hours so I think everything will be alright. Hope so anyway!

I have received 15 cards for the game already! It's gonna be great fun!

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

How did your plants make out last night Lin?I got a pretty hard freeze here.Plants that didn't get covered got a pretty good frost. Now it's going back up to mid 70/40's for the rest of the week.

(Zone 1)

We got down to 43 last night, Jan. I brought all of my orchids inside yesterday along with a couple of hoyas and put them in the guest bedroom, the kitchen and the study. I left hundreds of plants outside though because there just isn't enough space in my small house. It's supposed to be 44 again tonight but warming up by the weekend. Thank goodness we didn't get cold enough for frost. I am thinking about going to Lowes and buying a roll of that 6ml poly that Gail told me about to put on the north side of my screen enclosure for the winter. I think it would help keeping out the cold air. I hope I'm wrong but I have a feeling we are in for an unusually cold winter.

Last year I bought some wrought iron plant brackets on clearance at Wal-Mart and hung them above one of the windows in my guest room with an old wooden closet rod across for hanging plants.

This is what it looks like today with the orchids and a couple of hoyas:

Lin, you have a great idea there. I bring smaller hanging plants in and hang them from the shower rod in the bathroom. I'll have to take a picture next time. The larger ones go into garage and some into guest bedroom. The orchids are outside and get covered with old quilted mattress covers. It's a good thing these cold spells don't last too long or I'd be in trouble. I have just too many plants.

(Zone 1)

I hear ya Eileen! I keep saying I'm going to downsize with all these plants ... haven't yet, just seem to keep adding more!

Last winter my orchids were all in one of the bathrooms, hanging in the shower, from the rod, from the ceiling, two were hanging from chains on the light fixture, others sitting in the sink! I think I need a greenhouse!

Lilburn, GA

Lyn, i just love your orchids hanging that way. It looks so cool.

I am afraid I will not be participating in the bingo. I haven't been around lately.
I am having some neurologic tests done and I am on strong painkillers that make feel like a zombie.

I am still lurking when I have the energy and wish good luck to all of you.:o)

Nahunta, GA

Hi, I am gonna bug Hillbilly_gran for more details...but if you are interested I will donate some plants...I have most everything from cactus to plumeria, several types of house plants, Begonias, ect....I think it would be best for the winner to contact me with a "wish list" and I will just go shopping in the GH....

(Zone 1)

Spider: So sorry you can't join us for the Bingo game but it is understandable if you are having neurological problems! You just take care of yourself and pop in once in awhile when you can. Stop by the Bingo thread and chat too if you are up to it!

Stovall: I think the prizes have already been donated for the November game but there will be another one coming up in December, I'm sure. Prizes are donated by players and we've had prizes of cash, gift certificates to on-line vendors, gift certificates to wal-mart, donated plants, cuttings, leaves, donated hand made crocheted doilies, potting supplies, ... really great prizes!

Usually there's a game every month through the winter. You should play the game with us if you have the time ... it's lots of fun! Do you grow any AV's or Gesneriads? You don't have to be a Gessie grower or lover to join in on the fun! We welcome everyone! Most of us grow other house plants besides gesneriad's too!

Oh, do you need details on the game? How the game works: The hostess will post a list of names of 35 Gesneriad plants. Players choose 15 from that list (this will be your bingo card.) You d-mail your 15 choices to the card holder (and make sure to keep a copy for yourself.) There will be a new thread titled "Novmeber AV Bingo". Play will begin next Monday Nov 3rd and the hostess (Jan) will post a random name from the 35 on the master list. If the one called is on your card, mark through it. When all 15 of yours are marked off, post "BINGO". There are six prizes for the game in November so we will have six winners. Whoever posts "Bingo" first wins first choice of prizes, second person to get "Bingo" gets her choice and so on until all prizes are spoken for. It's really a lot of fun ... especially right at the end of the game when it seems like everyone is waiting for that last one on their card! It's usually right down to the wire with three and four folks trying to type "Bingo" to win ... fast fingers help! ^_^

I hope that all made sense ... I'm sometimes not so good at explaining things. It's really an easy, fun game. I remember I sat around and watched for a couple of months, not having the confidence to join in and finally said what the heck, I might not win anything but I'll have fun anyway. Well .. I did win first prize once and I got third prize another time and have had a blast even when I don't win!

So ... come on and play Bingo with us!

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Hey, it's never too late to add prizes, is it? (Ü)
I recall that being done in the past quite a few times

(Zone 1)

Hey Jannich, where are you? We need an executive decision regarding acceptance of additional prizes for this game and you are the hostess/commander in chief ^_^ so we need you.

More prizes, more the excitement!

We have 17 players I've received cards from so far. There are a few still out, but have until midnight on Sunday to get their choices d-mailed to me!

I will go back and post a reminder on the Interest thread in case someone has missed this one.

Nahunta, GA

I will say how about $20.00 value on the plants. (retail cost) I propagate most I have so it is no biggie. Thanks,

Laura

Nahunta, GA

Blast it, I reposted....sorry!!! I was being bugged by my son...and forgot I already hit send...sorry everyone!

(Zone 1)

Laura, no problem! Happens to the best of us ... I just recently I sent a blank post !%@#! on one of the threads, don't ask me why ... I was having a blonde moment I guess! LOL, I don't have a son who bugs me, just a husband and three cats! I hate it when I am busy at the computer (usually DG'ing) ^_^ and get interrupted with one of them bugging me! LOL.

Your donation of a plant $20 value is a great prize! I know anyone would love to win that one! Are you going to play the game with us? You are certainly welcome to join in! Just choose 15 names from the list at the top of this thread and d-mail them to me. Then start watching on Monday when the game begins!

Ellerbe, NC(Zone 8a)

Wow, this sounds like great fun. Can I play?

(Zone 1)

Welcome av_ocd_girl!

You sure can play with us! Just pick 15 from the list at the top of this thread and d-mail them to me. Game starts Monday!

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

Lin...Good you have a place handy and strong enough to hang all those orchids inside. Looks beautiful but I know you can't wait to get them back outdoors. I have a bunch of plants mostly hoyas and other odds and ends...succulents mostly, indoors permanently for months to come. I don't mind too much except for watering. A sun room with a tile floor would be nice right about now.

Stovall_Gardens...what a great prize offer! I love looking at your ads in the DG Marketplace. You come across so well. A couple of your Swiss Cheese plants called my name today.

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Better and I would love to play. Lots of pretty choices.

(Zone 1)

Great! Just d-mail your picks to me by midnight eastern time Sunday night!

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Lin,
I am not sure I am up to being a hostess and posting pictures and links right now.Would it be ok with everyone if I lurk ^_^ and watch for a little while???
I would like to donate a prize, though.I will think of something for a December prize.
Lynn

(Zone 1)

Lynn, you don't have to be a hostess or post photo's or links ... all you have to do is watch the calls, mark them off your card and type the word Bingo when all of yours are called!

Jannich (Jan) is the hostess for this game and I'm the cardholder. The hostess and cardholder don't play.

If you change your mind, please join in the fun! It is so sweet of you to offer a prize for December's game, hopefully we will have one then, if not I'm sure after the holidays are out of the way we will be playing again!

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Lin,
In that case I would love to play (although I know you are all going to get me addicted again).LOL
The prize doesn't have to be for December, just whenever.

Lynn

Ignorant question, without me looking it up,what is a first class program?

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

First Class is a program you can purchase from the AVSA . . . it is great for searching for named AV's . . .

Quoting:
The African Violet Society of America, Inc.

First Class Version 2 is distributed on CD. It requires Microsoft Windows® 95 or later and 40MB of hard disk space.

You can go to the AVSA website for more info: http://www.avsa.org/Default.htm

It is a great site to visit, even if you don't join . . . you can look up photographs, etc. Lot's of interesting information!
