We just had our two pets, dog and cat to the Vet's yesterday for there annual check-ups and vaccinations. My kitty, Toby, had a Rabies vaccine because it is required to cross the border into the US and we are getting set to migrate down to our winter home in Arizona. Our Dog had a Rabies shot and canine DA2PP, (whatever that is). Toby reacted to the Rabies vaccine. He slept under the bed all night (usually sleeps with us) and today has been dragging his little furry butt around all day. I feel terrible for him. The dog had no sign of reaction at all. Now I have heard today, that it may not be necessary to get the Rabies vaccine for the cat and I am going to check that out when we cross over next month. If it isn't necessary, I will never have him go through the procedure again. He is an inside cat and only goes out on a leash with me but does eat stuff in the grass, like bugs and stuff. Any opinions on this?
My other question is; the vet recommended that Toby be wormed. He has never been wormed since he was a kitten. (He's two now). After the Rabies vaccine reaction, I am a little hesitant about giving him any other drugs. She gave us Drontal Feline, 1 1/2 tablets followed by enough food to wash medication into the stomach.(Apparently it tastes pretty bad). She gave enough for two applications to be used now and whenever needed. I am not sure he needs any at all. Any thoughts on this? I hate shoving drugs into our furbabies at anytime, and don't want to for sure, if it's not needed. Thoughts?
