My a few of my chicken have very scaley skin and have lost most of thier feathers. Their skin also becomes very red at times. They have healthy appetites and are still producing eggs. I can't seem to find out what kind of skin disease they have to be able to treat it. Please help. Thank you
scaley skin
I have not heard of this personally but are they picking at each other alot. THey could possibly be picking at each others feather and skin making it red...but I guess that would not account foir scaly. I'll try to do some research and get back to you if I find anything,
Months ago they were aggressive toward the other chickens but have settled down. I did notice that the person I got them from had other chickens that had this same condition but the ones I got originally had all of their feathers. I think it might be something contagious because I have noticed that two other chickens have the beginings on their behinds.
What kind of chickens are they?
All I can suggest is taking a spray bottle and mixing VetRX for poultry in it with some warm water and when your chickens are roosting, pray it all over them. The oils are soothing and healing. VetRX is just a mixture of natural oils.
Ingredients
Made with 3.3% (v-v) Alcohol U.S.P. This proven mixture contains Canada Balsam, Camphor, Oil Origanum, Oil Rosemary, blended in a corn oil base.

If you call them, they also sell it in a larger quantity. It is also very good for scalely legs. I got some birds from a friend that were not in the best of health and this fixed them right up.
Could you perhaps post some pictures of your chickens here? It might be easier to tell if we can see where the feathers are missing and how the skin looks. If the feathers are mostly missing on their backs, it's likely to be from an over-zealous rooster, and the feathers will not grow in again until they molt. Mine have just molted but yours may not yet because it is still really warm there.
The chickens I have are a rhode island mix I think. Unfortunately I am not up to times with a digital camera so I can not post pictures. But I can tell you that the two who are the worse hardley have any feathers at all except some wirey ones one the wings. I will try the spray that was suggested. Thanks
