Palmbob couldn't help I.D. this bromeliad from his "Introduction To Bromeliads" article. Can you?

Maybe an Aechmea. I will do some looking around tonight ( 12 hours away) and get back to you.

weed_woman: Yesterday I did some research online and found an Aechmea very similar, so now I know which genus to look for when shopping. Thanks.

It looks a lot like this:

Yours has a little more orange in it.

Yeah, if you google Aechmea images, the ones that come close are A chantinii and its cultivars. It could be something else entirely, without the leaves as a guide also, it's hard to say for sure.
Well spotted pam

Thanks, PamelaQ. Aechmea chantinii has come up as a close match in research I've been doing at the FCBS website.

Aechmea, likely - but doesn't look like chantinii which has very "droopy" scape bracts. Ae. chantinii also has very distinctive banded foliage which would help id it. Unfortunately, like Neoregelias and Cryptanthus (but not quite so bad), there are hundreds of Aechmea hybrids and this could be one of them.
