I finally took some better pigeon pictures!

Today was sunny and I managed to take a few minutes for pigeon pictures. I have been busy building 5-star chicken accommodations, but here are my 4 pigeons.

This is the first one. She has lovely white wings with tan patches that are almost peachy color, and she has lots of colors in her neck, and Harmony told me that's called grizzle. I have a picture of her and 2 pictures of her neck - one shows the purples and one shows the greens.

There are some peachy feathers on its back - I think it might be male.

This is the first Jaconette pigeon and it is very pretty. I think it is the male.

And its other side...

And my 4th and final pigeon - I think the female Jaconette. Very pretty mottled brown feathers.

Very Beautiful birds Claire and so Healthy looking are you enjoying them have they cooed and danced yet?

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Thank you Harmony! I am so relieved that you like them. I was scared to pick bad pigeons! They are cooing mostly in the mornings and then around late afternoon. I have not seen much dancing yet, but definitely lots of cooing. It is a very gentle and calming noise. They sound like a little babbling brook or something!

Just wait until they decide to mate and you will be amazed at the noises they make.

Clair, the first bird is a light almond not a grizzle, the last bird is a true red grizzle. I commented in your other post today & tried to explain what a Jaconette (Jackenette) bird is.

Thanks John - I appreciate the new info! Light almond is a nice sounding color! I should name her something appropriate then. I still haven't named them. Perhaps Biscotti. I love almond biscotti. The last bird is so beautiful - I love to see her colors in the sun. Glad to know she is a true red grizzle.

Thanks for the info on the Jaconettes in the other thread - great to know. I have no idea if they really are or not. The fellow who sold them to me has about 100 pigeons in a large open coop - they can fly inside it. He can call to them and they settle on him. He sings for a hobby and he sings to them when he is in the coop and they all seemed to calm down. It was quite remarkable. He was very particular about the pair he chose as Jaconettes and said that only selected birds that he had were Jaconettes, but who knows if that is really so.

I am very pleased with them in any event, and look forward to spring when perhaps they will decide to mate.

Thanks,
Claire

No worries Harmony - we all live and learn! I just keep learning from whomever can teach me more about my birds! I've already learned so much from you and value all those nuggets of information! Maybe different areas of the country call them different things.

Thanks Claire but i never want to mislead someone with the wrong information. I have no problem admiting i was mistaken.
But i do research all medical advice before i ever print it here to be 100% positive it's correct with this it's just a color and no harm done.
