This will be her best flush this season then that's all for this year. Oh well -- there's next year!
Maya is about to pop!
Beautiful picture. Maya is one of my favorites.
Beautiful! Is this the same Brug as the one in your other post?
I adore Maya, would never be without her! Doesn't she smell lemony to you?
Thanks everybody.
Bettydee, yes, this is the same one as in my other post.
An amusing story -- in 6/07 when I was moving back here from FL I got advice from everyone as to wehther to take cuttings or not from my then lush 4' Maya that had never bloomed for me. The consensus was, what the heck - dig 'er up and bring her in the pot. I did and the poor thing lost half her leaves. Then I got her in the ground almost the minute I moved in here and she started to come along, but didn't bloom much last year. I was so glad I had asked for advice here in the garden and got such good advice! I wouldn't have her if I hadn't listened to all of you!
This year she was slow to bloom (are Mayas that way?) but she kept getting taller. You can't really tell in the picture, but she is about 8' tall and has a width of about 7'! I almost lost part of her after Hurricane Hannah or Ike (I forget) and I had to prop up one of her big limbs. So glad I did! The left side of her is very shaded behind the loquat and some elephant ears so she's a little thin on that side.
I guess there's some theory to that saying about first year (whatever it is), then second year they grow and third year (whatever it is). Can't remember the saying, but I know some of you do. In other words, you give them 3 years to really see how a new plant will do.
Cuttings will be coming along shortly.
