sparrows have taken over feeders...

Brooklyn Park, MN(Zone 4a)

is there any way toget rid of them?is there a food they don't like,my dad has this same problem.

Marlton, NJ

Maybe try peanuts and or safflower. Depends on what type of bird they are.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

The House Sparrows will the safflower seeds here.

Marlton, NJ

If their House Sparrows or House Finch they'll eat safflower. There isn't much you can do about them.

Is this what they look like? These are females, the males have some red on them.

Yeah mine seems to eat everything. Why don't you like them? They seem to be pretty harmless birds.

Quoting:
Here are the house sparrows

You have Tree Sparrows there ;-)

Note the red-brown crowns, not grey crowns. And that both sexes are the same (they're all the same plumage), unlike House Sparrow where the males and females differ.

We always have called these house sparrows and these are all males. Here is a male and female together. Not to dispute your word Resin. I am no expert. I just looked at this pic good and you are right on. Sorry, but I learn something new everyday. Thanks BEV

I was going to say, those didn't look like MY house sparrows.

I don't put out millet in order to keep the house sparrows down, 'cuz I heard they don't like the good stuff. However they are still eating the sunflower seed like crazy. They LOVE the peanuts in the peanut silo. And now they have discovered the suet.

Them buggers wil eat anything. BEV

We never get tree sparrows here. Send some on down. They stop their southerly migration north of me. About 200 miles north.

Wilmar, AR(Zone 8a)

I usually just get White-throated sparrows, thankfully, and I throw some millet on the ground for them and the doves and leave the sunflower, nuts, and suet for the other birds.
I am SO glad I don't ever get House Sparrows!
