Brugman,
With all the seedlings you grow when and how do you decided which ones to get rid of? How old are the seedlings when you start weeding them out?

I also have seedpods on a charles grimaldi, don't know who pollinated it. It is next to a x knightii. I have seedpods on a frosty pink in the front of my house also. It is the strange plant that is blooming frosty pink on part of it and charles grimaldi on the other part. Different stems but the roots are together. Can't figure it out but it is cool. It's got seedpods on it so not really sure what I'll get. How long do the seedpods take to mature?

Glory, I start weeding my seedlings out as soon as they get their first or second set of true leaves. I then plant them so close that only the strongest survive. You could say I value strength over beauty which is not the case with most hybridizers. I then select the best 2 or 3 out of roughly 5-6 hundred final seedlings. Started with several thousands of seedlings of course and having seen the beautiful creations you have I am astounded. I have noticed that one can not judge a new seedling on its first flower though as the second flush is often different. Hope that helps....
Brugmansia....Ps, if you want serrated leaves....grow as many as you can from a cross and then select the ones with the most serration from the second set of true leaves. Don't be surprised if they outgrow this serration though. Rolling leaves tend to be more noticeable later and deformed leaves tend to show up even later for the most part. I only have 2 seedlings out of last years crop with severly distorted leaves. Distorted leaves and much much slower growth as well. I may terminate them or perhaps let them go another year....
