Sorry for not providing a picture, however my fiance called about a bird he saw on the feeder and couldn't identify. He said it had a completely red body with a black head. He is new to birdwatching and that was all I could get out of him for a description. He thought it was smaller than a robin. He also said there was something odd about the head; very smooth.
Suggestions?

He says no. The body was almost completely red, with some "variations" in the wing". He did indicate the beak was similar to a cardinal.
Thanks for any help with this identification, although we will most likely not see it again since we moved to the northeast ohio area.
We may never know...

He was infected with feather lice...head looks smooth and his skin is black.
