I just noticed something about my garden. Most of the flowers are from bulbs. I had planted two shamrock plants from bulbs, both had lots of stems on them and lots of flowers. I planted daffodil bulbs also, just planted those and have canna lilies which are from tubers. Now, when the canna lilies get bushy looking I know it's time to thin them out which I will have to do this Spring as some are there already; but it can wait til after the freeze this fall and winter have come and gone. Now, as far as the shamrock plant it had a round like bulb, I had to transplant both into bigger pots as they are getting huge now; but, they look crowded with stems also. I have brought them in for the winter, and my question is this: I'd like to split the plant up into other pots; but how do I do this, I'm a beginner gardner and know nothing about this.

Can you split bulbs?
Best thing is to dig up the plant, shake off the soil and inspect the bulb. You should be able to see where it would be best to split. Post a photo here if you're not sure!
Things like daffodils actually benefit from being split up sometimes as if they get too crowded they don't flower as well.
Good luck!
Ditto from me. Daffodils, mescari and tuliips need to be 'refreshed' as I call it. I dig up the whole patch and re-space. I do it in August as many of mine are overplanted with perennials which have to be lifted as well. I would think in your zone you would want to wait til later in the fall. My simple rule of thumb is divide spring bloomers in the fall, and fall bloomers in the spring. Works for me so far for bulbs and perennials.
How about Shamrock bulbs they are little to begin with but have lots of stems, they look crowded to me, but, I'm a beginner gardener.

The purple shamrocks in my garden must self-seed because I have little plants coming up in a couple of places I didn't plant them. They are sweet little plants and add so much interest to the garden, I think, with their perky purple color and pink flowers.
Yes< I love mine also; have brought them in the house for the winter; along with my geraniums and Citronella Plants.

Joy: I just leave mine outside and they keep coming back!
Dale the Gardener: I have them in a huge pot now and they are busting out of that one. LOL Time to transplant, or will be this Spring anyways, never have too many of them on the deck ya know?
