Go check it out...lots to choose from and if your ground isn't frozen, it isn't too late to plant them.

Thanks for the heads up. They have some things I want.

Does anyone know the deal on prices however? I buy a lot of chionodoxa. Even at 50% off, Bluestone is higher than Van Engelen ($14.90 per hundred vrs $12.50 per hundred). Bluestone does sell them in lots of 20 and I might fill in an order of stuff Van Engelen doesn't have with some Bluestone chionodoxa but I can't see using Bluestone as a main bulb source. Yet it is highly regarded. Why is that? The bulbs larger than Van Engelen's?

(I do save sales tax ordering from Bluestone rather than Van Eneglen which, of all the bulb sources in the country, would happen to be located in my state not far from me).

I've ordered plants from Bluestone and been very happy, but I've never ordered bulbs from them. VE has become one of my main bulb sources, along with eflowergardens (run by DGer Bleek), Brent & Becky's, and BloomingBulb. I compare prices and wait for sales! :-)

Sometimes prices vary widely for a certain bulb... I think I found at least a five-fold difference in price one year for Crocus sib. 'Tricolor', for instance. So the Bluestone sale is probably worth a look -- but don't assume it's a great deal unless you check around.

David,

Have never ordered from Bluestone, but I agree with critter on both Van Engelen and Brent & Becky. I have yet to see someone who delivers a superior Dutch bulb than Van Engelen (meaning bulbs like hyacinths, daffodils,. tulips, and Chionodoxa, etc) and with price taken into account, VE is the hands-down winner. Note that if you want to place a smaller order you can always use VE's sister company, John Scheepers, which sells the same stuff in smaller quantities.

For things like lilies, peonies, etc., I think the domestic American growers are far, far better on size and quality though more expensive also. VE/JS lilies are not bad, especially if you want to buy in bulk and cost is a consideration. I did order some peonies from JS last fall and they were horrible - small and dried up and just finidng the "3-5 eyes" as advertised was a chore. But for things like daffodils, Van Engelen and Scheepers are the best I have seen.
