I have always thought that I did not like historical irises so I never have kept any. After viewing so many pictures of them lately, I have REALLY changed my mind!!! Does anyone have any to trade????
Deb
Anyone have Historical Irises???
I would be able to send some late July here. Let me know if you're interested and what you have for trade.
I have a purple and a pale yellow that I dug from a very old deserted farm about 15 years ago. They are very dependable bloomers. Even when a freak cold spell hit a couple of years ago and my fancy iris didn't bloom, these guys just bloomed their hearts out. I do not know the name but have pics of them.
Would love to have a start!! I have the flavescens and I just ordered a few more, but I do not have the others mentioned above. What can I trade you for them?

Hi Deb,
I have several as you have already seen, but I don't know the names of most of them. You would just have to grow them and see what you end up with.
I could dig you a bunch of them if you want to send me the money for postage. Since these are not my favorite irises I don't mind digging them while they are blooming and that way I can tell you this one is so and so are maybe even match some of my photos to them for you. Just let me know what you would like to do. If you don't want to do postage then I would like some of your irises that I don't already have and I'm really crazy about the bi-colored ones or any with the real bright orange or red beards. I'm also interested in ferns of any kind.
Let me know what you want to do.
Marian
You get the ideal, a bunch of old floppie historic irises and a few others

Yes!!! LOL!!! I love the old floppy ones. The longer, narrower, droopier falls! Those in your photos are great!! How about I send you postage now and I will send you a few of my newer ones after they grow some in the fall??
Of course, I love my newer, lacy, ruffled ones too!!!

Hello.. I guess I have historical iris. Not sure if that's what they are called. I live in TN and it is our state flower. Apparently at one time Nashville was the "Iris city". We live in the Nashville area. Guess you can't get more historical than that! LOL. I have some that are the traditional TN iris(can find them growing just about anywhere). The basic purple. I got them from my grandmother. Who got them from her family. Hey the line may go back to the 1930's when they where so popular in Nashville! :) Anyway. They bloom every year and nothing seems to be able to hurt them. I got a hold of wild strawberries last year and it got into the area and they didn't seem to mind.
If you want some I think I can pull some up and not hurt anything(thining somethings out this weekend and planting new plants). I don't know when it's proper to remove and transplant. But they are finishing up their last blooms. My grandmother gave me mine I think they had blooms on them. She pulled them out of the ground. I laid them on the spot where I was putting them and before I could get around to planting them they rooted.
Let me know. I put a pic of what they look like. It's not mine. I didn't take any photos of mine. But it is them none the less.
I think thast is a newer one. The old ones have long droopy falls and not ruffled. More like the yellow one above. TY anyway!! i appreciate all offers.
Debbie
I have this one. It is a beautiful yellow and Throneofyord told me at a RU what I have.
Yellow Flag
Iris pseudacorus
Yellow Flag Iris, Iris Pseudacorus, is recognizable by the raised line along the middle of the leaf. This is a delightful and historic plant that is also non native.
This is the flower that is the French Emblem, the Fleur-de-Lis. The story is that Clovis, The first Christian king of the Franks, was retreating and needed to find a ford to cross a river to escape. When he saw the yellow flowers he knew that the water was shallow enough and that the roots of the plant made a very solid foundation. In Louisiana there is very mixed opinion of the plant. The flag has it on it, and the cultural heritage gives it an important point. The fear of it excluding native iris or altering the environment make it quite unpopular with the La Iris Societies. Several states have banned it as a noxious weed. It is a very good filter plant, often used in water treatment to remove metals from wastewater.
lovelyiris,
Could you please take a look at the Plant and Tree Identification forum & look at the Iris I have posted there & see if it might be the same Iris you have posted (the first one) on this forum? I couldn't access the large image of yours. I sure could use some help identifying my Iris.
Thank you,
