No political discussion, I just want to know if you've taken a formal poll (either by phone or by internet) on who you are voting for in the presidential election.
Just a yes or no answer, please.
A poll on taking polls
Several.
Nope
Yes, both Michael and I have been called. I was just called last night.
Does anyone know how they pick who they called. The companies that call here were polling companies or in one case a TV station.
I actually do not answer to anyone i do not know, so there you go!
I have never been afraid of it. If I don't like the question, I don't answer.
But, I have to confess, I find it interesting to listen to the questions. Each pollster has a different line of questioning, and I am curious enough to take part. All of these people identify themselves, so it is a non-threatening situation.
Besides, those surveys take too long!
Well, that I can identify with! I have had them tell me 2 minutes and 10 minutes later I am still on the phone. LOL
This is the first year I have tolerated them. I guess I am just curious as to what they want to know.
The garden is done, the baseball games are over, I must be really bored. LOL
Somewhere, someone got my cell phone number, Paul's also. We do not have a land line, per se, for connecting to the internet. Verizon offers a "dry loop land line," which is (essentially) a telephone line enabling us to receive DSL without having to have a phone-phone line. The last week or so I have been receiving anywhere from 4-10 calls within a few days time. I usually nip it in the bud, telling whomever it is that they have contacted a cell phone, and they do not have permission to do so, Paul did the same. The calls keep on coming though. Regardless of the issue(s) or the person(s) running, or party for that matter, I just want whomever to stop calling my cell phone, Dag nabbit! lol
See i am not alone on this, TY Cyndie for posting that. I have a feeling though administration will get to us soon, hee hee
That can be really frustrating!!
I have had the same issue with my cell. They are either selling car warranties or stocks via text ( which I have to admit has dropped off a little lately. ;)
I think what they have done is put our cell numbers into the robo calling. Once you know an area code for a cell, it is simple to dial ALL numbers in that area code.
We even had an incident at the Post Office with a message to a gov cell that looked like a threat. Turned out to be a stocks pitch.
Spammers are everywhere....
Yes I don't talk to them. We are on the MA do not call list, where surveys are permitted. I like the recorded ones so I can hang up without saying anything.
Never been contacted. Would be annoyed that they got my number. If they have your number, it's not an 'anonymous' poll.
Been contacted for State elections this time but not the presidental election.
Pol always by phone not internet, but then we don't use that for anything 'official'. Don't give it out for things like 'order conformation'.
Hey, now that you mention it, I haven't gotten one call this year. Knock wood! Fingers and toes crossed! I'd probably decline taking the survey. Can I tell my mortgage company to stop calling too?
If you remember last year I got a call and the ID was US GOVERNMENT and I said it sounded like Hillary...I WAS UNLISTED... Since then I chaged from Verizon to Comcast. I dont have the typical number in the area anymore. The majority of numbers start 543 or 542. Now mine starts 504 and I have not received one call so far. A living Miricle!
So what does that tell you? I think calls are made in sequence. Begining with the area code, then the common numbers in your areas. Ex. remember the 1st three numbers in your area. Mine are 542 and 543. I could be wrong but how did they get my unlisted number last year.
Rep #1- 542-0001 to 542-1000
Rep #2 - 542-1001 to 542-2000
Rep #3- 543-0001 to 543-1000
Rep #4 - 543-1001 to 543-2000
We get the computer generated calls, very annoying.
There are two seperate lines to the house mine and SIL.
He gets lots of hangups and computer voices.
I don't get any thankful to be old these days.
I dont fit any profile, either as a consumer or voter. Yeaaaah
I used to have the job (for about three months, if that) of working for a big independent polling company. While I worked there, I called people on the phone (very polite script) and asked whether they used seat belts in their cars. (This was when it was still just optional.) I felt VERY sorry for the people I bothered, and since then, I'm a sucker for a pollster, because I always feel sorry for the person who has the horrid job of making the calls.
We are allegedly on the Do Not Call lists, so we only get a few calls. I hang up on robots - I have no sympathy for them. DH hangs up on EVERYBODY, whether or not they are taking a poll, LOL!
And some of the "independent" polls are so dumb! "Would candidate X do a mediocre job? a bad job? a very bad job? a lousy job? a horrible job? or an awful job? Pick one." Then the new is that 100% of people surveyed thought that the best candidate X could do was 'a mediocre job' at being whatever candidate X is running for!
Been polled.
I think polls are designed to get the intended results, so in my humble opinion are skewed and therefore to me are completely worthless.
Why not just make up stuff and not bother people at home.
No for here.
DH loves to turn it around on telemarketers and say he has 4 tires for sale, and if they buy tires, he'll buy what they have, etc. I just hang up.
If you get a robot call, press 2 and it takes you off the list. Since we've been on the National Do Not Call Registry, our calls have dropped way off.
I've done polls in the past, but none this year (touching wood). Mostly, we get calls from the USDA doing some Ag census or other and we are to answer by law, just like any other census.
Really Kathleen? Press "2" and you're off? Does that include children? LOL.
lol, getting lots of phoning home??
Once or twice most days! I'm more grateful than irritated, honestly I am! It's the other little twerp who always needs rides, money, permission, rides, ad nauseum... #1 is past all that, now she just wants to talk, about her roommate, her prof, her house, her landlord, her heat that doesn't work ...
Would this be the time to mention how much I adore my daughters?
lol, I know EXACTLY what you mean. The nicest thing is, that as they grow older you become a friend as well as their mother. My two are two of my best friends, and no, I don't find that odd at all.
You know those greeting cards that say "You're Not Just My Mother, You're Also My Best Friend?" We're not quite there yet, but I can see it coming. I can't wait for grandchildren, I mean I HOPE to wait quite a few years, but it will put a whole different twist on the whole thing.
I haven't been polled about politics, but call me weird, I LOVE to answer surveys about other things. As long as they aren't selling, campaigning or pitching anything, I'm happy to give my time giving my opinion on things.
My beef is people coming to the door to ask me to sign something or sell me something. It upsets my dogs and infuriates me.
I don't think I've picked up the phone on a ring alone since the invention of caller id- greatest invention ever, maybe.
Ok, you're weird but I love taking surveys too.
Ahhhh caller id, thats why I dont pick up.
If there isn't a name on my TV I let it ring.I have digital everything and the callerid is on the phone and TV.
I've had a few calls for campaign donations but no poll calls.
I resent those mail pieces that try to make believe they are surveys and and are really requests for money. They are so transparent. And the questions are usually like "Do you feel the same way as we do and therefore want peace and prosperity or do you prefer the opposite point of view and hope for eternal damnation?"
I never open mail that isnt hand writtin to me by someone I know(rarely happens nowdays with email) Im too busy with other matters, besides that mail is generated by the thousands by associations who dont expect more than a .5% return, you would think they'd give up.
I open bills, everything goes thru the recycle garbage.
I even went to the stop catalogues.com website and had most of my catalogues stopped.
Did it work?
NO.
Here it is in case anyone else wants to go for it.

For a while I would return an empty envelope for all those mail offers that had paid return postage, figured if they paid postage for nothing, maybe they would cut down on mailing offers.
DH has taken a poll or two recently and enjoyed doing so as the questions were vague.
So I answered the phone and this is what I got "Who are you voting for?" and this is what they got "None of your business" click.
I don't answer the phone anymore. lol
Gotta love caller ID.
We have it on the TV, too, Jo Ann, so we can decide if we want to make the effort to get up and go answer it!!
My phone os next to me so I dont have to go far.
" California Caller" makes me cautious, sometimes I crack and answer and always get quiet on the other end. I hang up immediatly, but now that I know about pressing #2 I'll start doing thet.
