American Crow behavior question

Huntsville, AL(Zone 7a)

We have a family/flock of Crows that for weeks have been harvesting and appearing to cache pecans in the open field next door. Some days there are only a couple and other days there are as many as seven or eight birds performing this behavior. They make multiple trips from the pecan trees to the field and back before, as a group, the behavior ceases only to begin again either later in the day or the next day.
Have any of you seen this? I had thought the Crow to be more of a scavenger than a seed eater.
Thanks for any info you can share.

You know, I had this sort of thing recently. My neighbor has a hickory nut tree and several of them are out there once in a while.

Thanks for letting me know you had seen this, too, Mrs. Ed. It a new one for me.
By the way, I love your pictures. Thanks for posting them.

you are welcome, here's another. no nut this time, but same stalking! This time there were about 6 hanging around. Previously about 4.

I think that your crows have better taste! Pecans! Yum!

Those Crows are so handsome!

Fairly common for crows to cache nuts as food.

Nutcrackers and Pinyon Jays are the real masters at it, though.

Thanks, Resin. The are dedicated taskmasters, for sure.
