Dartmouth, NS(Zone 6a)

I will be in the Ottawa area this coming weekend and hope to do some tropical plant shopping, were should I go? recommendations please

Dartmouth, NS(Zone 6a)

some one must have a suggestion for me....don't tell me everyone in the Ottawa area get all there house plants from Rona!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I suspect most of them are pretty much outdoor gardeners!

batflower,

I'm not far from Ottawa, but I'm reluctant to suggest since tropical plants aren't my forte. I'm so sorry, I don't have a clue. Hopefully someone with some shopping experience will come along to lend a hand.

Love Kingston, by the way.

thank you sanannie. hope I didn't come off as rude, I'm just having a real hard time locating any greenhouses and therefor getting very frustrated. I mean, whats a trip to another city without bringing home a few new plants ;-)

Check the yellow pages for Ottawa!

It's just that I'm not sure what you are after.

The Central Experimental Farm has a tropical greenhouse, I think they are open all year round, but I'm not sure the plants are for sale. http://www.friendsofthefarm.ca/attractions.htm

I've shopped at Richmond Nursery and they DO have an area in their greenhouse where there are tropical plants for sale. They are open Sat 8-6 and Sun 9-6.

If you are near Kanata, which is west of Ottawa, go south on Eagleson Road for about 13 km.

I remember a greenhouse years ago, Fine's Flowers, that had an enormous selection of houseplants - but they are now mostly a flower shop. I asked if she could recommend somewhere to buy tropicals. She said Langdon's have a modest selection. http://www.ottawaplus.ca/portal/profile.do?profileID=48944

Again, I hesitate recommending places I have no knowledge of ....

You might stumble on something here ....

Good luck.

Like Sandy, I don't grow tropicals but I think Ritchie Feed and Seed may have some. Good luck and let us know what you find so we are prepared the next time someone asks.
