Another "what is it?" vine

Novato, CA(Zone 9a)

I just bought a vine with sweet pea flowers and spear shaped leaves in sets of three. It was the only one and no tags on it. No one knew what it was {Home Depot). The flowers are light purple and it looks like it might be invasive. Does anyione out there know what I have? Should I take precautions? I am trying to cover an arbor in roses and clemitas and anything else that will give me purples and pinks and whites by next September but I don't want to be sorry after that because I can't get rid of it. Thanks for any help. Shirley

Sounds like a Hyacinth vine to me. Very popular annual. I have it along a chain link fence, mixed with morning glories and Moon vine. The hummers love it. It will put out wine colored seed pods which you need to gather when they turn brown and replant in spring.

If this is what it is!! This is an annual, not perennial like the Clematis.

Is this possibly it? The last photo is probably the best one for comparison.

If this still isn't it, you might try posting in the Identification forum for more help.....and a photo will almost guarantee you an instant and correct answer :)

How about the everlasting sweet pea?http://davesgarden.com/plants/go/674.html

Sounds like hyacinth bean vine to me. Sometimes the leaves are all green & sometimes they have purple veins to them. Lovely vine with very attractive seed pods if this is it. I have seeds to trade of this vine, by the way, if anyone is interested.

Home Depot is a great place to shop for plants but please dont bash them for not knowing what the plants are, they get so many in and they are gone in no time, plus so many people remove tags...it's not soely Home Depot's fault. You pay for the knowledge when you shop at the nursery!

Sounds like hardenbergia -- check it out in Sunset Western Gartden Book.

Sorry Schmet. I didn't mean to know HD.. I think it is the snail vine. I still havent taken it out of the potas I'm not sure where to put it. Is it invasive? I wonder if it will work with wisteria.

I have a "Blue Pea" vine. It is of the same description you had given. Three spear shaped points to each leaf. It is beautiful and NOT invasive I have mine growing on a tripod type of a unit. There will be seed pods like pea pods. save seeds to give to friends and don't forget to plant a few under the original plant to be sure you wil not be without it.

WOW! i am new to this site. I just realized your original message was written a year and a half ago. Well, by now I guess you know what you have!!! HAHA
