Rothkirch

Rothkirch has it's first bloom of the season! I really love the aurea type blooms. This time of year Rothkirch is pretty light in color. She does get much darker than this. I have had no luck rooting this guy. I have tried to root every cutting I have taken over the last 3 years and nothing! I thought i had a nice rooted cutting and one day overnight it went kaput! So I just enjoy her as a standard and just trim off tips to keep her in shape. It's a shame because I would love to have a backup plant in case something happens to the momma, but I don't think it's in the cards for me....

If you like the aurea "type" blooms then Rosalie is the way to go. Beautiful dark green leaves, fast grower, very heavy bloomer and easy to root....everything you would want in a plant with blooms of this shape.....this is Rosalie....the blooms are actually similar to Rothkirch except they are waxier and larger.

Gary, does air layering work with Brugs? And someone, might have been Eric, suggested grafting cuttings then after the graft takes potting plant deeper so grafted portion develops roots of its own. Finally cutting off all parts of the host plant. If I find that thread, I'll post the link to it.

I've been after Rothkirch for a few years now. Seedsprout has had some success rooting Rothkirch. I'm hoping she has more rooted next year and that I'm high enough on her backorder list to purchase one.

I killed my first plant of Rothkirch and then failed with a cutting from Shirley. Actually, it did root but sent out weird growths like witch's broom. I was told to cut those off to encourage new growth and it promptly died.

Plant those RK cuttings as deep as you possibly can. If you use a gallon pot, put the cutting all the way to the bottom. I don't think I would have good luck with them without using deep pots. I first tried in small pots and lost some. I don't remember who told me to plant them deep, but it does work. Good Luck.

I have had several people ask me if this is the real Rothkirch. Indeed this is truly Rothkirch. The real deal.
