Dolly asked If I'd show how I make my light weight foam planters... covered in the synthetic stucco of the faux building industery.. these palnters are great for insulating the cool loving brugs. in a deorative planter..where the watering is also a cooling of the roots... and the foam holds the cool... as well as protecting the soil from the heat. here's a link to this thread on the container forum

and thanks again Dolly....
all the best...

OH.. this is a bout the brownest brug flower I've run across here..
Foam planter construction techniques... for Dolly
Thanks Gordon for posting the thread. Going now to check it out.
Wonderful post Gordon! The possibilities are endless on the different garden designs/containers that you can make from the foam/stucco.....doesn't sound expensive to make either.
What is the brug in your above post? Love her color!
Thanks again for sharing!
Dollie
Gordon,
Thanks for sharing this information the possibilities are endless! I believe making some of these will help me out here in Texas for sure! I now have another winter project to add to my list. :0)
Colleen
That is a great article. You are very creative!
I was using wood containers because the wood was a poor conductor of heat but they dried out too much. I like your idea better. I love that smokey mauve stucco color :)
Colleen...Well thanks...tomorrow we'll put a little imbelishment on it..and give it a coat of stucco...and we'll post afew of the pictures then..
Lenette.. well they do hold water better than wood and there's less heat in them to dry them out... but be sure to provide enough drainage for them also ..Thanks.. yes...the Mauve is a lovely color..
Dolly...Well..it was my pleasure to run a few plantes through ..and photograph them for you... you've brought a pile of pleasure to me..and amongst the brug community to be sure.. so I was happy to post for you.. and there I didn't even know I needed any new planters.. but now that I have them... I find plenty of things to do with them.. filled and planted..they will help hold the cool winter greenhouse down..
The unusual brug pictured...is a single seedling this year a fine healthy brug in every respect..
and is a Berghonign X Double Dark Rosella ... [ German seeds from Volker ...] it has a few other buds yet to folwer we've lots more of his seeds from other crosses...awaiting their first flowers..and more on this one an from buds that are hanging in todays heavy winds.. it's kept the flower beautifully.. Gordon
and considering it will only get darker.. I'm more than a little happy..
OH.. the foam is good for solving the winter s storage problem here..not only do I need more space.. but a cool place for more dormant storage.. so an outside foam building.. a few clear double walled polycarbonate pannels will be installed..also.. this usesthe 1 1/2 " foam.. which slips into the 1 1/2" metal track.. that is glued and screwed back to back to back to form a double channel ][ into which the foam pannels are just slipped into.. so it can be dismantled in the spring.. buy unscrewing the metal and popping the foam out.. for storage or reuse as planters...
Gordon, what a pretty planter!! In Dec. I'm cutting my work load from the hospital way back and plan to work on some of these stucco designs/planters. Thank you for sharing with all of us on Daves.
That's a nice storage plan for everyone living in colder climates that need additional storage space. Or for anyone needing an additional outdoor space. Using the stucco storage plan would make a wonderful garden tool storage unit....or design a sm. playhouse for children. I'll be getting in touch when I start my projects.
