I'm stumped - missing junk email folder

Maybe someone here can help. It's not my computer but my elderly friend who is a bit computer savvy but not a lot.

The hard drive died on her computer. Local computer repair guys talked her into replacing the hard drive. They did manage to recover all of her files and everything is working fine except the junk folder in her email, Outlook Express with XP OS, is missing.

She said she's getting notices that she has x number of junk emails, but can't find the folder. I've tried to get her to call the guys at the repair shop, she for some reason is balking at doing that. Unfortunately, emails I'm trying to get to her are getting shunted to this invisible junk folder.

I've tried scouring the internet, not finding anything on junk folders disappearing. Can anyone help?
