Got a new Feeder

Marlton, NJ

This is the Squirrel Buster Mini Feeder.

http://www.squirrelbuster.biz/squirrelbustermini.htm

I just put it up a few hours ago but the Finch,Chickadee's and Titmouse went right on it. It's hanging in the tree along with the regular size squirrel buster feeder. The bird shop I go to had a sale on all their feeders so thats what made me buy it. :-) It's weight activated just like the large one.

That would be a nice one to have....hmmm, now who can I get to get me that for christmas........

I got a new feeder similar to that right after hurricane Ike came through to replace the one that got smashed to pieces during the storm. (It was the 1st thing I replaced when we got back! LOL, see where my priorities are...) Mine is the big version though.

ANYHOW my birds have not been too happy with this type of feeder. I usually have droves of mourning doves and house sparrows. This feeder has been up for a month and it's barely been touched. I have the "deluxe" mix in it too - with nuts and berries and lots of different types of sunflower. I ever added some thistle.

Can you send me some of your birdies please???

Hi rn, You have the Squirrel Buster Plus? Thats the most popular feeder in my yard.

I just put sunflower kernels in mine now and all the birds seem to eat from it except Mourning Doves who prefer the platform feeder.
The newest bird on it has been the Downy Woodpecker. Now if I could just have the camera ready when he's on it.

Here is a pic taken through the window of the two feeders in the tree.

Thankfully, I don't need a squirrel buster feeder. I see squirrels all around in the oak trees behind our house but I guess they have plenty of acorns and such that they don't bother my feeders. Yay!
I cut way back on feeders in the summer. There was one point that I only had one feeder up. I now have one small cage feeder for sunflower seeds and peanuts, two platforms for cardinals and one multi-port tower feeder for everything else. I also spread millet on the ground for the doves and sparrows. I won't put suet up until it gets cold and stays cold, which down here may not be until January.

Nanny, that's funny! Who to hint to and have a good possibility of getting what you want. Better get started...Christmas is just around the corner!

That's cute, Pell!

I think we need to resurrect the "show us your feeders" thread. I got a new feeder too. I finally found the upside down finch feeder in a store. So far only one taker. They are over enjoying the seed in the sock. I'm sure they'll discover this soon enough.

I love this feeder! It's actually squirrel proof when others make the claim aren't. I've had doves on mine, though... and the cardinals LOVE it! Of all my seed feeders, this is the easiest to clean, refill, etc., and, can I just repeat SQUIRREL PROOF!

I have a similiar feeder that's weight activated, but what the squirrel did was hang upside down on it and broke the section that covers the opening when it closes.

heyitsmejudy, what size feeder do you have, mini or regular? I am shopping for a new one, and this one looks good. Thanks, GM

I have the regular-sized one... It was around $65 but for what I've saved in seed, well worth it and has more than paid for itself.

I have the large one too and I'd highly recommend it. The little one is good but it's really only good for smaller birds like Tufted Titmouse on down.

The large one holds alot of seed and any size bird can fit on it. You can set the weight limit to what you like. I personally have mine set on the second line from the top.

Sorry to hear about your weight activated feeder Jen but with a real Squirrel Buster Plus a squirrel could never break it ,they can scratch it (if you put it where they can get to it). Only a raccoon or bear could do real damage to it.

Geez, here I go sounding like a commercial again. :-)

What large birds use your big one pelle? Thanks, GM

Red-bellied Woodpeckers can and Blue Jays (if they distribute their weight enough). I have it set pretty light because I don't want the Grackles hogging it.

Cardinals,Downys, Nuthatches and of course all the little guys too.

I keep mine filled with sunflower kernels.

I guess the reason mine isn't being used is just the types of birds that come eat - doves and house sparrows. They much prefer the seed I sprinkle around on the ground.

Guess that will go on my Christmas list this year.

My red bellied woodpeckers LOVE the squirrel buster plus. I haven't seen a bluejay on it... but then they come to the bowl and grab a peanut in the shell (or 3) and they're on their way..
I had one of those Squirrel Be Gone feeders... apparently, my squirrels are obese — more than likely from consuming several pounds of BIRDseed... they broke the spring that closes the ports and VOILA! Chow time!
But I, obviously, like the SBP feeder A LOT!

Marlton, NJ

Yes since I started putting large nuts and peanuts in the shell in my platform feeder they don't bother with the SBP anymore.

The down side to the mini feeder (and I guess any mini feeder) is that I have SO MANY House Finch that it needs to be filled every day.

Finches stay on a feeder & gobble & gobble all the seed.Thatis opposed to the chickadees who grab one & head for the nearest bush. Then they have trouble returning because of gobbling finches.

I just ordered the squirrel buster plus from ebay. I can't wait to get it!!

That's a great feeder jen, I love mine.
