antifungal spray for lifted caladiums?

Chicago, IL

Hi -

I would like to try to store my caladium bulbs this winter but am having trouble finding powdered sulfur after calling some garden centers.

Can I use a coating of an antifungal spray?

Also, a couple other questions:
- is there anything in particular that can be done to prevent shriveling and loss (spraying the tubers during winter, etc.)?
- is there any advantage to breaking offspring apart from the larger tubers? I have one that is now two large lobes and about 5 small ones.

Sounds like this is not always that successful, but I'd appreciate any input. Thanks!

If you have any cinnamon in your spice cabinet that is an excellent anti-fungal. As far as dividing the bulbs there is a wealth of info if you would "google" the subject matter...HTH!

Jan, cinnamon is an excellent choice, we use it on orchids here.

Doobie, no need to split up the tubers. I grow them and all I do is remove the first large eye (sprout) from the large tubers. It causes them to grown more smaller eyes, then you get full clumps of smaller leaves (they get larger fast). Makes a better looking plant.

Hi -

Wonderful idea to use cinnamon...and beautiful caladiums, Dale - I have admired other pictures of yours in different threads.

Thanks much!
