I have buds!

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

What should I do? I have two plants that have small 1-inch flower buds on them. I had planned to stop watering and bring them into the basement for winter. Should I keep them going so I can see the flowers? Frost will be nipping at our toes pretty soon. Will they flower in the house Ok? Should I keep up with the heavy fertilizing? These two plants are from karmaH'T' & one of them is only 1½ ft tall.

Happy days!!! go for the blooms, poppysue, the worst that will happen would be they would fall off, and you have a chance to see them open!

I have the same problem poppysue. I have a Frosty Pink outside with 3" buds on it. I listen to the weather every night as we have already had night temps of 38 degrees.I've been so excited over the buds there's no way I'm going to miss out on seeing them open so first hint of frost and they will be heading into their new home on my sunporch.

My first Brugmansia bloom was an indoor bloom in the winter time...go for the bloom and perhaps a seedpod or two would be my suggestion. You can always let them go dormant next year.

Ok .... going for the blooms! Does that mean continue the heavy fertilizing? Today I noticed the teeniest little bud on one of my sanguineas. The plant looks like hell but I'm sure it's a little flower bud. Maybe I can coax a flower from that one too. I wasn't expecting anything from them for a couple of years .... maybe the cool Maine weather agrees with them. I'm definately gonna need to set up a light to bring all these in. I haven't discussed it yet with hubby... I'm sure he'll think I'm crazy!

You discuss this with your husband? A girl's got to do what a girl's got to do. Unless you're setting the lights up on his side of the room.
Go for the blooms!

Liz, you're my kind of gal!!! I don't ask, I just say it has to be done. Fortunately he's fallen for brugs too! :)
