I came home from church and found Treacle's first egg lying in the grass!
Treacle is from an egg sent me by the wonderful TamaraFaye. She (Treacle) is a Buckeye/Brown Leghorn cross. The egg is about 2/3 the size of my mature pullets' and very hard-shelled for a pullet egg. In the picture the first egg is from Colby my RIR, the second from Buttercup my BO, and the last and most precious, from Treacle.
I am verklempt. So proud I could plotz! (My Yiddish is not context sensitive).
Where are you TF? Do you need us to organize a mission to rescue you? We will leave no Chicken Comrade behind!
TF! Treacle laid an egg!
Congrats! How eggciting! I am getting a white leghorn roo soon. Maybe I will have some mixes come of this. It will be my first leghorn. Kelly wants to name it Foghorn - something about some cartoon with which I am unfamiliar.
Hooray for eggs! And such a nice backdrop...
CMoxon -
You don't know Foghorn Leghorn???? Did you not watch Looney Tunes as a child??
I actually have a picture of him that I will be hanging in my coop for my girls.
search google images - foghorn leghorn.....it will probably spark a few memories.....
Teresa
Hi Teresa,
No, I don't know Foghorn Leghorn. I looked at some pictures. An interesting character! As I was saying in another thread, I forget which, my mother only allowed me 2 hours of television a WEEK as a child. Cartoons were not an option. I sometimes watched Mr. Rogers. Sesame Street was not allowed either because my mother believes that it teaches by repetition rather than understanding. I tend to agree with her. But the 2 hours a week might have been a bit harsh. Still, I played a lot outside and read a lot of books and things, so I was a very happy child and did not feel deprived. I think television sort of rots the mind. But it means I'm pop culture deprived...(or ignorant).
:-)
teresa83--I am sorry to have to tell you this, but Moxon is a Canadian. A fact she uses to excuse herself from all sorts of normal and healthy cultural interactions.
I have known other Canadians who seemed perfectly normal, although Moxon would have us think they were the exceptions.
William Shatner was a Canadian! And Peter Jennings! Half the cast of Saturday Night LIve! All perfectly promulent TV personalities. Take that Moxon!
So is Jim Carrey! So there!
Promulent? What the heck is promulent? What dictionary are you using anyway?
I am the original eccentric Canadian, and proud of it! So raspberry in your general direction....pppppbpbbbbbbbtttttt!
:-P
Ah ha! You don't know promulent! Hee, Hee, Hee. Proves my point!
I watched TV every chance I got--and who is the more eccentric?
Dukes up!
I refuse to be drawn into this peurile interaction. I am clearly more eccentric than you because I have more chickens and have far more unusual idiosyncrasies. All you have is a levitating ceramic armadillo. I mean really, who doesn't have one of those?
Peurile?
Even I, a TV-addled American (and Californian too boot) can spell "puerile". In fact I embody it.
LOL You two behave or no soup for you! LOL
Congrats Catscan on the eggy
Thank you for all your help this weekend...
oh my god moxon spelling a word wrong maybe only people who get ruled by a queen get spelling mistakes LOL
Moxon was very tired and had been butted in the head by a goat in the preceding hour. This is clearly the reason for the error. Watch it you Aussie hothead! LOL!
Moxon! Stop head butting your goats at once!
Sheeesh.....
ROTFL...yeah, like I needed a bruise in the middle of my forehead...
ZZ i recognize that qoute Jerry sienfeld (sp) fan i see and yada yada yada to you LOL!!
LOL
Bread? Did you ask for Bread?
HellooooooooOOOooo
NEWMAN!
excuses excuses moxon you should embrace the ways of being bad at spelling/grammar the queen would want it LOL
So sorry CMoxon - didn't realize you were from Canada. I just remember watching it as a kid....too funny. I too watched Mr. Rogers and that darned sweater/sneaker ritual. He about put me to sleep. I was a bit older when Sesame Street came out, but I do remember watching it with my little sister and thinking the characters were pretty hilarious.
As a teacher, I can completely agree with only 2 hours of television a week....especially today. I think the whole 2 hours a week of any type of video/television/Nintendo/XBox/Wii/etc. would do alot for the youth today.
Well I do actually think that those cartoons existed in Canada - they are pretty widespread, but I still didn't watch them. Seems other friends of mine who had "normal" TV viewing as kids in Canada are aware of Foghorn Leghorn!
I totally agree with you regarding kids and all the electronic distractions - go read books and learn something instead! There is a time and place for television, but I think too often it is used as a type of babysitter. Oh well, I shouldn't comment because I don't have kids, but that's just my impression.
Josh - the Queen would not be amused. :-)
morning Commander
Treacle laid another egg, even better than the first!
I wish TF knew.......
My mother makes awesome treacle tart, but that is with real treacle, not chicken.
Maybe she could do a sort of General Tsoa chicken tart and use treacle instead of sugar?
no no no moxon i was talking to her last friday she says to embrce it like the rest of us LOL
Josh--did you ask her why she wears those strange hats?
yes i did she says they are to stop the CF satelites tracking her it is inlaid with foil so her majesty the queen of england and the commonwealth is safe. dam thats a long name
The Queen is always very proper with her language use, and I refuse to believe she has embraced Aussie spelling trends. I will ask her when we have tea and crumpets together on Friday.
Ah. That makes sense then. I always wondered. I do know that British royalty has long been keen on poultry breeding.
So Moxon, that would make an appropriate topic for your tea. That, and the weather, I think.

Queen Victoria was very taken with cochins, apparently. No wonder, given their cuteness factor.
Serious cuteness factor. Two of my last hatch are bantam cochins.
Cat I guess I could give you an update, TF is still without phone service and therefore no computer at the moment. Maybe soon she will get a phone.
wat happened to her?
