Hello, everyone. My Paul Robeson (PR) is busting out and past its cage already. If you have grown PR in an EB or Tomato Success Kit (TSK) before:
How tall did PR get?
What staking method did you use?
I was thinking of Tomato Ladders by Gardener's, now I think EB-grown tomatoes need twice the height! I'm really in awe of plants' growth in EBs and Tomato Success Kits. Wow.

EB/TSK-Grown Paul Robeson Tomato: How tall?

I don't know anything about that particular tomato. I just saw your name and thought I would tell you I ordered some smart pots too. I won't get to try them for potatoes
untill late winter here (Feb.) so I am relying on you to tell us how it goes. I am just
getting ready to clean out and put my EB's away.
Annie
Thanks, Annie. It's like Jack and the Beanstalk already.
Moon I grew Paul Robeson and it got around 6ft or 6 1/2 ft tall...it was a large plant but not huge. My Black Cherry was much worse and it was pushy as my DH calls plants that invade.
Hey guys, I ordered some tomato seeds that will come in sometime in February that grow up a trellis and grow to be 6 inches across, they are all meaty too. I'm anxious to plant, sniffles. Darn it, this fall and winter won't pass quick enough for me.

Thank you! Araness, my PR is in a Square Foot Success Kit (mini self-watering planter from Gardener's). It's doing quite well, and I plan to grow PR again as early as February. Gorgeous plant.
We're getting a lot of rain now (good for California). If I can taste one good fruit, I'll be more than happy.
Joy, what kind of tomato is that?
Moonglow: Don't know it's supposedly the one that made Burgess Seeds famous, I got a coupon for buying a packet of them for a dollar, couldn't resist right? LOL
They are due in Jan 2009, just in time to plant for Spring.

A very generous DGer friend gave me seeds enough to start a nursery, and one of the heirloom tomato seed varieties she gave me is Climbing Triple Crop. I need more self-watering planters!
Moonglow: That be it, does it really climb trellises? It looks like you get lots of huge tomatoes from this one in the pictures. Should I plant it in the square footer from Gardeners Supply or one of the EBs?

Joy, I plan to grow that baby in Gardener's Tomato Success Kit on it's own.
The cool thing I like about TSK is that it comes with the cage.
I plan on using the tomato ladders with my EBs.
Moonglow: I don't have the big Gardeners' Success Kits, just the square footers ones, I have two of them though and they have cages with them, along with self-watering mix and fertilizer. Was thinking of putting a trellis together though, as I have the directions for building one in a crafts book I have instead of staking it? Think that might work?

Joy, this is my first year growing tomatoes - - - so, I'm very green. It will probably be happier in a TSK.
I love the SF Success Kit though. Probably better for smaller tomato plants.
moonglow: I'm very green too, so we can learn together right? LOL
