I went to a friends house today and they said they had a present for me. Cool. I thought they might of had some seed of somethign they collected. Well wasn't that for sure.
Instead they hand me this giant 8 foot tall " Y" looking thing with wilted leave son it and teeny tiny new leaves like tryign to start out all up and down the thing.
Good thing I had a station wagon, cuz it took up the whole length of th eback and some of the front seat. Gues s they had been to a friends house who had a single white one and knew I was trying to get some and learn to grow them. Well, they had asked the lady for a couple of small cuttings and the lady instead had her daughter go out and cut this whole monster thign for me, Bless her heart.
She told my frineds to take this big thing and just lay the whole thign out on the ground flat and then bury all the parts of the " Y" and that every place where there a notch a new plant would form.
Now it cold here in the 40's at night and I don't have a bed big enough to lay this whoel thing down in.
What else can I do with it please. It was cut yesterday and not sure how long these things live like that and shoudl the wilted leaves be taken off of it?? It still sittign in my car until I learn what to do.
Help!!!!!! Somebody Please!
You can cut that plant into smaller sections, like 8 to 12 inches. Then place them in a good soil, and keep moist. Not soaking but nice and wet. Then you will have several plants. You can either lay it flat, or straight up.

Oh Thank you!! I wouldn't have started this new addiction if ya all hadn't posted such pretty pictures. Now I got brug fever. LOL I want some of them big pretty things too. : )
Do I plant them as soon as I cut the pieces? Is it better for the piece to be planted on its side or upright? If you put it on its side, how deep do you bury it?
Plant them as soon as you cut them, or keep them in water until you can plant them.
There is a lot of fun girls, and guys on this brug thread, that has lots on info, and fun chat going on. Hop on in there, and tell them I sent you.
If you lay the plants on the side, bury them just about half way, so you can see some of the green stem. it needs light to grow. I use Miracle grow fertilizer on them once a week, while they are growing. For now I would use it once every 2 weeks until you start to see the new growth.
See you in the thread.

Thank you..Thankyou..! I sure do appreciate the help. it to dark to try and cut tonight, but will do it first thing in the morning. This thing so big I sure I wil have more than I need and can share some out with somebody.
Appreciate the link too. : )
If you haven't cut it up yet, you can root most of that large cutting and have a few small cuttings a one large one. Have the large cutting contain most of the trunk and the "Y" with 6 nodes on each branch of the "Y". Next spring the large cutting will become one of those gorgeous tree shaped Brugs. Remove all the large leaves. Decide how tall you want that tree remembering some of the trunk will be buried and make your cut.
Put the cuttings in about 3" of water, with a small amount of hydrogen peroxide added, until the cuttings develop white nubs. Plant the small cuttings in 4" pots and the large cutting in a 1 or 2 gallon container. The large cutting will be top heavy. Bury a stake alongside the cutting, tying the cutting to the stake. Then tie the stake to some other prop to keep the cuttings fro being moved around. Keep the soil moist until the cuttings root.
Hi Starlight,
I promised you some cuttings...Well, I have some rooted ones if you want them. :o)
Morning everybody!
Finally gotten warm enough to go outside. So gonan go out and try and make my first cuts and hope I don't cut me too. LOL The bottom part of this thing looks bigger than what my cutters wil go through.
I bene puttign it off, cuz I still somewhat scared. Sure Hope I don't mess it up too bad.
I know this is probably a dumb question, but does your plant have to have a Y before it makes any flowers right. Does the sticks make their own Y or do ya have to have a Y first. That may sound confusing cuz I a bit confused myself. Very easy for me to do. LOL
Hey Spider, sure do and appreciate it and still be glad to send ya postage or trade for somethign else.
Hey Star, from what I have read, All brugs have to Y first to get blooms. I have had one with a Y for a couple of months now, so I don't know how long they take to bloom, once you get the Y. Guess that is all up to the plant! They all make a Y on thier own, when they feel like it, You can't make it Y, that I know of?
Please go to the link I posted above, and ask. There are some wondeful ladies, that have a lot of knowledge about brugs. You can get more answers there.

and then I got two of these I have no ideas what to do with. Both of these pieces were at the top and they have a 'Y' but then they have another " Y" on the top.
Do I leave them just like that or do I cut them down some more? And do I leave all the wilty leaves on or do they all fall off by themselves.
Looking good so far, just make sure you put them in water, if you don't plant then right away. Put some peroxide in the water, and change it everyday, so it will not get skunky...
Linda Kay
I would leave them as they are. All the leaves will fall off, so you can remove them if you want to. Then as the plants get roots, and start to grow, the rest of the plant will start to shrivel up. This is normal. As you get new leaves, the plant will get bigger and stronger.

Thanks Linda. Popped over and said Hi, new forums and new people scar em. Even though I tromp all over Dg I a very shy person in person.
Starlight, I'm shy too, if you can believe that... I like cuttins anywhere from 4-12 inches long.. I would take the big piece w/ Y's and put it in a bucket of water to root... just so it's in a place that has some light, and not under 40 degrees... you can watch it and pot up once it has some good rootage or leave it and let it root all winter.. I don't change my bucket water unless I have some cuttings that rot in in there, but that has only happened a couple time in all my years. I just add fresh water to it every month over winter till they are ready to pot up and go outside in late Apr/early May. If I were you, I'd try different ways to root your cuttings and find which works best for you... those cuttings in the pic on the opening post on She's about to...#29 are in orchid moss, some coconut orchid stuff I had, mixed with some MG potting mix and I have one in spagnum moss, some were in water and "nubbed" some I just cut and stuck in... they are in their cupss and then in a kitty litter pan (cleaned with bleach, first ;) makes them easier to move around) and are on a heat mat about 4-5 ft under a 4-bulb shop light. Should have dated the cups, but didn't... going to un-cup one when I'm down there pretty soon today and see what's going on with them.. hope I've helped you.. really they have a great will to live and as long as you are keeping them moist, there's no emergency... till you can decide HOW you want to do them....I'd trim all those dried up leaves off, too.
