0-10-10

Union City, CA(Zone 9b)

I just started feeding my roses 0-10-10 . I weed then add preem and 0-10-10 .
Does anyone give it to brugs ? Starting to repot with fresh supersoil before putting in cold frame green house .

Tony, why are you repotting now? Are you going to keep them growing fast? Having large amounts of wet soil without roots growing throughout that soil may lead to root rot.

I've not used 0-10-10 with anything. Plants can't use the phosphates unless they are incorporated in to the soil. Brugs don't need much phosphate. Potassium can't be taken up by plants in low temperatures. All things taken into account, it may be a waste of money to use it on Brugs.

I am weeding / cleaning yard .
I use supersoil because it drains fast .
2 of the wife's peagomiums had black beetle grubs that ate the roots , so I am checking - I am mixing grub-ex in the super soil for them . I line the holes in the pots with old screen to keep bugs out . but they still get in .
I have probably 20 in pots - 8 in ground . I don't plant in ground till I see the color . The only exception is miners claim . I paid 40 for it and have been moving around in yard to find a place it likes . 3 areas so far and it doesn't seem to like anywhere yet .
My roses seem to like the 0-10-10 . This year I am a little early , I generally wait till after halloween .

well Tony.. Miners claim here has had alot of movment.. trying to get it to give some growth... having killed two already.. I reluctly accepted this gift to try it again... Now.. I'm not without some great success...yet two have checked out in the care.. { the desciding factor to taking it again.. was aquote I heard from one of the Glassworks Greenhouse fellows...he said he always gives himself three tries with anything.. after killing two he'll try once more... ] so here I am... and only since thetemperatures have dropped.. and it's in full sun [ although fallweak ] andsitting on a shiney piece of plastic.. has it shown any real drive... I had to add a few new stakes to it to support the new longer limbs.. I have even saw a lovely one with multiple flowers ..out on a fire escape in the Bronx... so I keep with it... hoping for my blooms also .. this time around..

If you check the patent application information on Miners Claim you'll find that SLOW growth was one of the qualities they listed. It's not you ..... it's Miners Claim. I've finally accepted it for what it is ..... A smallish plant with lovely variegation that will occasionally put out a bloom. Not as hardy as we might like. Might be good for a planting below a taller non variegated Brug.

When I purchased my Miner's Claim at a nursery near Half Moon Bay, it was about 5' tall. In order to mail it home, I had to cut it into several pieces. The rooted portion grew and bloomed. Three of the 4 cut sections rooted and grew a bit. Then spidermites hit big time. You can see the mottling on the leaves. This was around the time I underwent surgery and couldn't go out and spray or water my plants. I lost most of my plants. All the Miner's Claim plants were among the dead.

I had them in the shadehouse. Growth was faster than on Snowbank and for a Brug with that much white, I was quite pleased with it growth. I hate spidermites!!!!

This a photo of the mother plant with one of the flowers. The buds were beautifully stripped. If you look carefully, you can see the bloom's calx. and the mottled leaves :-(

I'm with you Bettydee! I hate spider mites! I could show you pictures of their damage that would make a grown gardener cry. :-(

I got mine from Half Moon Bay nursery too . There is only one other nursery - that carries named Brugs .
They are not cheap , but If you want it . I can seldom get out with dropping at least 75 .
Unfortunly the wife has picked up my habit of seeing a plant and saying this is mine and on the cart it goes .
About 15 years ago she found a Dahlia she liked went to get me and it was on some ones elses cart .
My saying is if cost less than a pizza , it's mine - 2 pizzas - it goes on cart and we talk about it . Then buy it .

It's a good thing I live half a continent away. Still have family in Fremont. So when I visit, I make a few forays looking for plants, but I never thought of it in terms of pizzas. LOL.

Plants are not too expensive when compared to a large pizza , bucket of chicken and the plant will be around next week .
You want that plant or a pizza ? Plant generally wins .

ha ha ha ...it's a matter of priorities right ?
