Frost watch for Virginia tonight, tomorrow
Thanks for your input Hart--I live in Loudoun. I'm going to cover my peppers and take in the ones that are turning red. I've already mulched my hardy Hibiscus. :o) Snug
I hope our Virginia gardeners are all seeing this.
LOL! I just saw reference to freeze warning on another forum and thought- let'sgo see if hart has put up an advisory!!sure enough.
Thanks!
although I may be safe, not listed-I'mm close to the water--well, not close enough to get any benefit except this.
I kind of wish my gourd vines would freeze so I could clean up that mess
Well, the "Endless Summer" has come to a screeching halt. Or was that Hart? LOL!! Thanks, Hart, for bringing me back to important things. I have some tenders out on the porch!!! Gotta go!
It went down to about 30 here last night. When I got up this morning, all of the leaves on my paulownia tree had been zapped and were lying on the ground. This happens every year on the first frost - the leaves are very tender.
Had frost last night, Sat., too. Had all my plants in and took cuttings last week. Now I won't be tempted to take more cuttings. Now to emptying the large pots and storing them. If I don't store them Hubby manages to destroy a few while snow blowing.
A hard freeze was predicted for Loudoun and even Fairfax counties yesterday (Sunday, 19 Oct), however, when I got up this morning I was surprised to find just moisture on the car and the plants seem unaffected. I do have a very large fig tree with thick large leaves that may have protected the plants lying under it, including a brick patio that might retain some heat. In any event, I did cover my tender plants and don't regret it. As the hard freeze becomes a daily event, I will give up the ghost--so to speak, but I won't give up yet. Snug :o)
NORTHCENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA had frost the last two nights. The rest of the week looks to be about the same. Tis all in and done....me thinks. This usually happens here with or following the last full moon in October. It did! BRING ON THE SNOW. Our hunting seasons are opening. No fun quite equal to a tracking snow to add interest to the hunt.
Frost in open areas around here, last night, but I figured-rightly so far- that I get a warning shot and my plants are OK next to the house.
This usually happens here with or following the last full moon in October.
Very interesting observation, Doc
Turkey hunting has started here, the flock of wild turkeys that I enjoy seeing on my way to work each morning have gone into hiding, sigh!
Is that the harvest moon? Something like first full moon after equinox?
Sally.....Here is more then you really wanted to know...Ha ha

Hi ladyg- You failed to scare me off. I actually went and read that, thanks!
For those dying to know but in a rush- harvest moon is usually the Sept full moon (but not all years)
Hart: Thanks but no thanks. No frost permitted here for at least 2 weeks. I'm not ready.
Sally, Did you check out the Moon Illusion link at the bottom of the page? I got to a place where I was looking at Optical Illusions, very interesting.
