Please be careful when taking your babies outside

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

Ok, I'm used to hawks here and having to keep an ever watchful eye on our Chihuahua and our new baby Siberian Husky when they go out to go potty. I do not leave them unattended because I know they can be a nice meal for the hawk.

But for the past week, we've had a new resident that I like even less -- I think it's a Great Horned Owl. I am somewhat afraid of birds, but when seeing a huge bird flying at night, well, I'm definitely afraid!

Last night, I took Cooper (6 month old Siberian Husky) and Summer (picture attached) out before going to bed. I put Summer on the tie-out and kept Cooper on the leash (can't find anyone to put up a fence for me!). I always keep a watchful eye because we have coyotes and deer and lots of other wildlife around us -- no, we do not live in the country. I was looking up and saw this huge bird (Great Horned Owl) fly over the hill behind our back yard and head straight toward Summer, who only weighs 14 pounds now.

Cooper and I ran to Summer, scooped her up in time to see the Owl fly into the tree we were standing under and then we ran into the house. Very scary!

So, please remember to keep a watchful eye over your smaller pets at all times, because you never know what will come flying overhead.
