I have been calling this hoya cinnamfolia forever but I went to plant files and the flowers there don't look like mine............here are my flowers.

Also.........I see a hoya for sale that is called hoya Chelsea but I can't find anything in the files about her and how she blooms. thank you so much

Looks to me like it might be H obscura but I'm sure others will know for sure.

I've also heard about H chelsea but have never been able to get a description of it that makes sense - one person's will have small leaves another will have variegation, and so on. I'd be interested to know this also, as I passed up a cutting in a recent trade because of this.

Yes, that's H. obscura. I remember you posting this plant several times for an ID, so I recognize it.

Christine, I received H. chelsea in a trade (or swap or something), and it's a cute little guy. I don't have much info for you though (it was plain green and had some dimples, and it was roundish...that's about all I can tell ya!). And unfortunately it died on me :(

thank you Gabro...............I won't ask again........I gave a basket to someone and hate not to be able to tell them what it is.................

I will pass on the Chelsea that is giant on DG Marketplace for only 15.00

Nice obscura, Gail! Love the foliage and blooms on that one. Someone posted a picture of one a few days ago and I really fell for the beautiful foliage! That one is on my wish list.

I have Hoya carnosa 'Chelsea' that I got in a trade last year. I don't know anything about it either except what Gabi said, it has solid green, dimpled foliage. Mine hasn't bloomed yet so I know nothing about the flowers as to color, fragrance etc.

Here's a close up kinda heart shaped, dimpled foliage.

Gail, I was real tempted to buy that one on the Marketplace!

Lin, I didn't know you wanted an obscura.................I go to the dentist on the 31st and pass by the nursery...........will surprise you..........I have been wanting to send you something just because you are sooooooooooo nice! And you always help those of us who have no botanical knowledge.............

(Zone 1)

Gail, Bless your heart! You don't have to give me that plant, I owe you for all that you have shared with me the past year! I will reimburse you for the cost of the obscura plus shipping it to me! Wow! do you think that nursery will still have them available? Oh, how wonderful that will be if you can pick up one of those beauties for me! I am so excited about the possibility of getting an obscura to add to my collection! Talk about nice ... you have shared so many of your wonderful Gessie's and Hoya's with me and so many others here on DG this past year!

LOL, I don't profess to have much botanical knowledge at all! I have learned so much from folks here in this garden, you included! You, my friend are the true green thumb grower! I've seen pictures of your outside gardens as well as your inside gardens! I think you must have green fingers, thumbs and toes! All I do is repot them into my mix, hang them, or sit them somewhere and if they survive, they survive ... if not, I don't fret over it. ^_^

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I have become that way with my outside hanging baskets. They have to be tough to survive my care!

Well, I guess I'll be kicking myself until the spring when I can get a cutting of chelsea - its simply adorable! Getting too cold now to ship cuttings in Canada - although I'm expecting a delivery tomorrow .... Time to be hunkering down for the long, cold winter, when I'll go into withdrawal for new hoyas ... but at least I have a few now that have budded up.

YOu all are making me want to go back and buy that Chelsea................let me go see if someone else has grabbed it up!

Whitestone, NY(Zone 7a)

Gail, you should definitely go back and grab it...very cute hoya.

I hope I didn't offend you when I said you asked before. But it definitely would be a good idea to label the hoyas once you get an ID so that you have no concern while trading (and so you don't have to go crazy every time you are trying to remember the ID!). I use those permanent plant markers and write the label right on the pot.

Hope you post a pic if you get that chelsea.

Chelsea will bloom the same way your H. carnosa blooms or your H. Krinkle 8 .... if they bloom. 'Chelsea is just a sport of one of them....nice leaves and nice coloring in them, too.

(Zone 1)

Gail, let us know if you buy that Chelsea from the Marketplace! It sure looks like a nice one!

I have learned from Carol's posting on the forum, that the carnosa's don't like sun. I had a few of mine out on the pool deck in the screened enclosure but it was still way too much sun and the foliage was getting very faded out. I've since moved them under a covered deck and they are looking a lot better.

I have learned the hard way, too. I did get the Chelsea.............just couldn't pass it up...........My australis is still blooming those gorgeous white bloom and they are soooooooo fragrant. I won't have any more this year because the housekeeper loves plants as much as me and we trimmed all the runners off so she could start some....................I love to share as I get so excited about the blooms.

(Zone 1)

Gail, my australis is blooming now too ... wonderful scent! I always thought lacunosa was my favorite fragrant hoya (of the few I have that have bloomed and graced me with the fragrance) but I think I've changed my mind now! I love the white blooms too!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Are not they the most wonderful fragrance in the world!

(Zone 1)

Heavenly!
