Good News!

(Zone 7b)

I went to my usual feed store to get some feed and i have never bought any meds there before like most feed store's theres tons of horse stuff but a small almost tiny amount of chicken stuff.
So on a half thought i said you wouldn't happen to carry chicken vaccine and she said yes i about fell out and she went to the frig and "uh oh" there was none she said sorry we had the one you vaccinate chicks with i said no as my chin hit my chest i don't need chick shot's.
She saw my disapointed look and said what is it you need i said i need the fowl pox vaccine and a smile big as texas came over my face she said i'm sure i can get you that all i have to do is call our supplier and see when he can get it here she said i'm not 100% sure but he got us all the other vaccines so why not that one.
So i'm on pins and needles and she said she would call me tomorrow and let me know.
If that women only knew what this means to me and how it will kill me to wait on her call.
I may just sleep with my phone LOL!
So thats my good news and i hope soon we will have good news from all with sick chickens.
Everybody cross your fingers and toes and wish real hard that i get a call saying my misery may be about over.

I'm SO excited!!

hmm.. i know u can band them there with one type of id bands but that just freaks me out. that's why i was wondering how it was done.

i thought it said the tool needed was included if i remember right but can't think what they called it. it should have detailed instuctions with it also. any we have ordered in came with them and saline but ours were waterer vaccines or eye dropper ones. our's could also be used in a spray form basically u put them all in the building and fogg them with it.

i wonder if that is the only way to administer it or if it will tell u different ways u can do it like ours did?

I think it is usually a notched needle because you are actually transferring the inoculum into the wound made by the needle. You are, in effect, a giant benign mosquito infecting them with a very mild (to them) strain of the virus so they can make antibodies. A bit like the smallpox vaccine they used to scratch into your arm. Not really an injection.

(Zone 7b)

Is it like a poke more than a plunge like a shot? Kinda like a diabetic prick?

Reynoldsville, PA(Zone 6a)

ya mean kinda like those little blue things they do a TB test on ur arm for and a week later u have to read the bumps and fill the card out and send in? ya know that mabe possible i didn't think of that it would be like pricking them rather than an injection.

Found this link thought it had a lot about all sorts of things in chickens. http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/PS030

My Pox Vaccine has arrived and i will be going in a couple hours to pick it up my DH is takeing half a day off tomarrow so he can help me get everybody vaccinated.
I will after all have shown it has taken be disinfecting and cleaning my area and then this nightmare will finally be over.
I'm still feeling for anybody still out there and if you have alot of chickens like i do vaccinate don't try and fight this i tried and lost.

If anybody has questions feel free to ask.

(Zone 7b)

Well the vaccine is in my frig and is just waiting for me to get busy and get it done.
The lady at the feed store ask me about the pox and the vaccine and i told her i was new to pox and vaccinating.
She told me because i come in there so often and i'm always talkin about chickens that i was now her chicken expert and she was going to call me whenever she had a chicken question.
She was impressed with my knowledge of chickens and i told her i was no expert but would help if i could.
I can't wait for tomarrow afternoon to get here so i can finally be able to know the rest of my chickens won't have to suffer with the pox and the spreading will be over.
It's going to be a big weight off of me.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Oh Harmony, no need to be modest here....you ARE a chicken expert and we all love you for it!

Sending beams of white light to you and all your chickens that you might finally be free of this terrible affliction.

Claire

I think I just bought a pair of blue wheaten banties from Craig's List - going to see them tomorrow. I'm a sucker for new chickens....

Lodi, United States

Moxon--you need to adopt a more positive attitude.

The correct phrasing is : Why, goodness gracious, have I perhaps purchased a pair of blue wheaten banties from Craig's List? How delightful!

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Sorry Catscan, you had poisoned me with your "the world is a wicked place" attitude.
