We have been watching this hummer for the last 3 weeks and it seems in no hurry to go south. It seems like the same one. Always sits in the same spots and is not too scared of us. We sit on the porch and it comes to the feeder that is about 5 feet from us.
My father who now lives with us is worried that he will get stuck here!! Every morning the first thing he does is stand in his window watching to see the hummer. He is really getting a kick out of it staying so long.
We have had several mid 30's to 40's nights but he keeps coming back. Not many of my flowers are still in blossom other than the ones in the greenhouse and those are red! Have been worried that it will get stuck in there but we are safe so far.
Still have a Ruby Throated Hummer
Wow, that is a late bird. Hope she comes through here on the way south. I saw one on Monday 10/13, but none since. I leave at least one feeder up all winter just in case there are strays.
It was still here as of late yesterday afternoon.......the 17th. Guess it is confused.
I have one that's still hanging around too so I've left my feeder out for her. She looks like a young one so I think maybe she's just not big enough to make the trip farther south yet. I will keep feeding her and hope she fattens up before it gets too late. But your hummer has a lot farther to go than mine :-( Hope she makes it O.K.
Have been gone all weekend so will find out if ours is still here. We had 20's last night and more of the same for tomorrow.
Will report then.
