PLEASE HELP-
Some of you may have seen my additions to the POX thread. Looks like my 2 broody hens (that share the nest with eachother and take turn laying on the 7 eggs) have the Avi Pox, too. The eggs are due to hatch today or tomorrow.
I have to remove the eggs to keep the pox from spreading to them and possibly killing them after they hatch.
I have my bator set to 100 degrees, but the humidy is 90 right now. There is nothing else in the bator.
They have not been set at 100 degrees for 19 days, though.
Can anyone help to tell me what to set the bator at on the DAY of (within a day) hatching?
Thank you,
~music

Removing eggs from broody Serama to incubator
BUMPING - URGENT...could be any minute and I have to go to work (15 minutes ago.)
Nobody knows?
Thank you,
~music
I would say 99.5 degrees and 60 to 65 % humidity
i think 100 degrees is fine. The humidity at 90% is way too high.
OK...sent my son to work for me so that I can deal w/ this.
Thank you, Claire...just reduced the humidity to about 65%. Oh dear...I'm so worried that Millie and Myrtle are going to hate me for taking their babies away. Should I replace w/ fake eggs?
Thanks,
~music
I wouldn't replace them it would only force them to sit for no reason and with the pox you would want them to work on getting well. They usally get over loseing their eggs it's when you remove thier chicks is when it's tramatic.
I hope your eggs do okay keep us posted.
Once again i feel for you with this pox I'm right beside you anything i learn i will pass on to you.
OK...THANK YOU. Big TIME!
I have moved the eggs to the bator at 99.5 degrees and candled them on the way. They all look so good. Those girls did such a good job for their first brood. I'm so proud of them.
I just checked the girls and they were looking ALL over for their eggs and then they both went over and started lapping like they had never seen water before at the water fountain!
So, the girls started setting about sept 26 pretty consistantly.
That is 18 days ago. In the bator, I have had them pip on day 18. Guessing with all this movement, etc, they may be later.
All 7 look really healthy...nice air sac...at least what I can see by candling.
Will be keeping a close eye on everyone and reporting back.
ttfn,

Glad to hear the eggs look good. I tend to agree with Harmony about not replacing the eggs. It seems it would put added stress on them for no end result. I hope both a them recover nicely and keep us posted on those babies.
