Hi
Sorry to report the blind polt didn't make it. Another of the BOURBON REDS, the weak one, made it. but then broke it's leg. Serendipity, but I had just had a 'rescue' chicken with a damaged leg that turned out well, so I set it as best I could and cast it up and he's doing OK too, 4 weeks later. Have to keep him separate so we call him Garbo. Guess he's the pet.
The other 13 are doing fine, average 6 pounds at 7 weeks. I'm trying to figure out when they will be ready to eat? I haven't started advertising but have 3 orders already. Heritage breed site says 26-28 weeks but that's free range, ours are inside most of the time for safety reasons, and eating constantly.
Heritage breed turkeys - maturity
Bumping up.
What's bumping up?
kicking the computer.. HARD!
No idea on when they will be ready to eat, but just wanted to say I'm sorry to hear about your turkey troubles. I'd like to try heritage turkeys in another year or two. Hope the rest of them all turn out well for you.
Claire
